For fear of this becoming 'Brake thread Bingo', (you've all read 'em...) will some of you settle an argument for us?

Q: Ford to Ferrari, past or present, are there examples of mainstream manufacturers fitting braided brake-hose as stock?

Jaguar do on quite a few cars, my XJs did

Not fully braided, but visible metal wire reinforcement

Yep Goodridge lines as OEM - definitely braided. Same on the XK.

Proper, proper braided, not as above - rubber with a spring-protection? I'm surprised, and I've lost a bet!

I would hopefully say not, stainless braided hoses are not hardy enough for everyday motoring, it is too easily damaged.

Did the vanilla Puma have braided? If I have it right, the 'Racing' (know very little about them) was limited-production?

I'd have agreed with you, and you'll not see the damage. Not for long-term road-car use. Apparently, (if in the bulk of production) Jaguar say different.

Nope, standard.

The ones I'm talking about are the type where it's a nylon inner, steel braid wrapped around the outside, then the whole thing is coated in plastic to protect it.

This is just external braid:

Externally braided without a plastic coating would be daft on a road car

It's almost like every single OEM knows more than aftermarket purveyors of tat. Once again.

Ah, we're not talking about the same thing, whatever the outer covering, I'd say a steel braid wrapped outer was not suitable for long-term use in a road-car. Race-use only. Looks 'race' yet damages too easily. Rubber can be inspected, less likely to miss delamination at MOT - hence less law-suits. Jaguar - and it looks like we might add Lotus to the list, see it differently.

I don't think we can include Caterham, and Lotus are borderline. Perhaps I've phrased the question poorly.

Is braided brake-hose fitted to any FULL production car, in major manufacture.

No, not the standard Puma, just the Racing of which there was 500. A production car though...

It's almost like OEMs are designing cars to a different set of criteria than those required by someone modifying a car, one of the main ones being making everything as cheap as possible.

How dare you. You made me smile. And they don't want to be in court.

Fair enough. i think we see a theme here. Can't seem to find too many full production cars without a 'racing' or 'track-day' bias with braided hose.
