Hi all. I have a 991.2 C4S cab which is getting a bit less use than I thought.

I’ve had a look online but there seems to be lots of conflicting information and it’s not Porsche specific so can anyone tell me in simple terms how I go about trickle charging my Porsche.

Also any recommendations for a trickle charger for a 991.2 would be most welcome.

Thanks all

I recommend a CTEK MXS 5 I have been using one fpr years on a selction of Porsches. Connection can be direct to positive on battery and earth point on body (not battery) or via cigarette/ auxiliary power socket depending on Porsche model - not sure which is best on 991.2 but i am sure someone e
se will come up with that !

Ctek are good, I also use the MXS5
Not sure where the battery is on a 991, but on my 996 I have a short ctek lead permanently connected to the battery. The ctek lead quickly connects and disconnects from this.

Be aware that on a 991 the footwell power outlet will get disconnected from the battery after some time (no - I don't know exactly how long). So if you plan to leave the car on the charger for extended periods of time you should connect the charger directly to the battery.

I charge my 991.2 via the cig socket. Works a treat.

Charging via the cigarette lighter socket sounds straightforward. What trickle charger do you use?

Also are you able to run the lead under the door so that you can still shut and lock the car?

This: https://www.tayna.co.uk/battery-chargers/ctek/mxs5...

And this: https://www.tayna.co.uk/battery-chargers/ctek-acce...

This works fine on a 981 Spyder and 718 GT4 (both with smokers pack) but I know some people experience problems with disconnections when connected via the cigarette lighter socket (seems to depend on certain models / mode years) in which case you can hard wire to the battery / negative post easily enough.

And the cable will run through the door seal (and bonnet seal) without issue when shut.

Same Ctek and cable setup here on my 996. Work's well.

I also have a 991.2 Cab, I have CTEK which easily connects to power outlet in footwell & that works well.
But I left mine unused & not charging for many weeks last winter owing to stupidity / laziness & it was no problem.

I use a Ctek on my 997, plugged into the cigarette lighter and the lead runs out the bottom of the door. The door seal won’t harm the cable and you can lock and alarm your car as normal.

I've got a Porsche charger which is just a re-branded Ctek. Bought it when I had a 997. It's a doddle to use. Just trail the cable out the bottom of the door. I can leave it charging for weeks or months without any issue.

I have used a CTEK charger on both my previous 991.2 CS and my current 991.2 GT3. As my car is parked on the driveway rather than garaged I use the cigarette adapter in the passenger footwell to connect and a couple of CTEK extension leads to run in to the charger in the garage.
I find that as long as the CTEK is powered on and charging before the car is locked then I can leave it for weeks and i don't have an issue with the car going to a sleep mode and disconnecting the charger.
It works a treat and is especially valuable over winter.
