An interesting 24hrs...

Minding our own business yesterday evening and we hear the approach of a thunder storm.

Nothing unusual that at this time of year so unplug the wifi etc and sit reading a book.

The storm almost passes and then out of nowhere we hear bang bang bang from the roof and look out of the window to see the hailstorm from hell.

Never seen anything like it, tennis ball sized hailstones bouncing over 1m in the air after hitting the lawn, our roof was massacred.

Then the monsoon hit, it's great watching rain water pouring out of your light fittings!

Both cars have numerous dents, the caravan has about 40 dents in the roof and the front window smashed.....

And yet when I start to speak to friends and neighbours, I find out that we were actually fairly lucky when I compare our damage to theirs.

Today with the help of two good mates we've replaced just over 100 tiles, theres a bit to finish tomorrow but we're almost water tight and the electrics are testing ok after a quick dry out and the forecast is dry until Tuesday

Wonder what tomorrow has to bring?

Bad enough when you live somewhere and have at least some contacts etc, but in the middle of a holiday with no support net is terrible.

We've had neighbours and the mayor and his deputy calling around to see if we need help which makes things much easier by comparison.

It makes me laugh when I hear tourists moaning about a bit of rain,the weather in the South West,in June can be bloody dangerous.

At least it was designated an Orange warning so your insurance should cough up,still a pain in the arse to sort out though.

Well a positive bit after all of the damage.....

No need for us to fill in interminable forms or obtain 3 or more estimates for the damage, just an email explaining what happened and including a Devis for the repairs

Our insurers ( AXA ) have already arranged to have both cars and the caravan checked over with a view to repairing them if possible ( not so sure about the caravan tbh ) and having received the devis for the repairs, it's already been approved and we should get the payment sent to us in the next few days.

Last time I had to make a claim on UK house insurance at was nowhere near as quick and easy

I encountered this yesterday in the Dordogne. Seems to have been a very localised incident, and the town was hit hard. Rows of cars in garages etc that looked like this.
