XC60 vs XC70 vs XC90
Discussion
Last week I posted a topic about a 12k towcar after our current CR-V let us down again.
Since I've looked at a few cars and while the Infiniti FX and EX seemed viable options the rarety and VED on them put my wife off.
The EX we went to look at also had a blemished MOT history so we ended up looking elsewhere. An XC60 was mentioned and this brand has become the focus of our attention since!
However,
The XC we really like is '12, 58k and near £14k for a 10 y.o car. A diesel which is also going to get hammered as we move on. This got me thinking. My wife has an old Gen 2 CRV petrol, drives 3-4 miles a day averaging 21mpg. Do we just change both? I have 10/12k cash plus whatever my current cars are worth to play with.
I average 12k miles p.a. She 3-4k max p.a. 1 must be a towcar capable of 1.5tonne pull.
So.
3 cars that interest.
1st. As mentioned '12 XC60 R-Design D5 with 59k. 215bhp. £14k. (trade in my 2.2 Gen 3 CR-V/keep Gen 2).
2nd.'11 XC90. Good Spec D5 with 119k. £7.2k. Find smaller car for wife trading/selling CR-V's (say 10k tops for smaller car)
3rd. Bit of a deviation. Always liked older Volvo. Seen a 185bhp '55 D5 XC70. 120k miles, looks good condition for £3.5k. Means potential 14/15k for Wife's car!
What would you do? XC60 means I'm driving main car and putting on the miles on it. XC70 means the miles going on a older car and trusting it's reliability to pull a van when needed. Middle ground 7k car means both of us getting a newer vehicle? That said I've seen some nice/newer 09/10 XC70's for around £7k with 110k on the clock.
What would you do?
