Blatently irritating subject line as clickbait...

Following on from my thread here regarding being bored with cars ( https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...), hit me up with your suggestions as to something to fill a gap:

In case you don't want to read the other thread, the story is that I've just sold my F80 M3 after 18 months of ownership, having become throughly bored with it and finding it largely pointless on today's roads because you just can't use it as intended. If you want to debate that you should probably do so on the other thread, but I think it's largely done.

I still have a 1995 Nissan Pulsar GTIR as my 'fun' car, and a crappy old Focus 1.6 as my 'hack'. Now that the M3 is gone and given that the Pulsar is not a daily, I'm thinking about updating the 18yr old Focus with something else as a daily.

The only criteria is that it needs to be able to carry two mountain bikes, ideally on a roof rack, preferably not via a towbar - unless there's one already on the car.

Don't care diesel/petrol. Budget up to 12k.

My initial thoughts were:

- 320d or 120d
- my son thinks I should get a BRZ or GT86, but at my budget, that's going to have done some miles.

Given the M3 was too competent and you already have the pulsar, I'd get something like a XC70 as your daily. It's something you can abuse and does the bike thing well.

If you want something that is still entertaining, maybe a Civic type R, the spaceship one?

I feel your pain OP. I bought a F90 M5 done 2k in March and have quickly realised I can’t use it at all unless I track it which I am not interested in doing.

Taking it for an alps trip next month then it’s going. I will spend half the money on a nice X5 instead, it’s all I need but glad I ticked the box.

How about a Focus ST estate, all the space you need and quick enough to not get bored with. Or a Mk5 golf GTI
