My car went in to the garage on thursday with suspected HGF. here is a list of everything that is needing done and the price they want for it. What do you guys think?

1. HGF - £615, which seems pretty average from what i hear.

2. New thermostat - £48 and Coolant - £99. These obviously go hand in hand with the HGF.

3. The heater matrix was leaking and needs replaced - £205

4. Timing belt and alternator also need done - £355

These are obviously quotes from a lotus garage, but do you think the timing/alternator could be done elsewhere?

Check the prices of a few specialists too.

I think Horizon Motorsport charge about £350 for HGF. They'd put a new timing belt on for the cost of the belt and coolant would be included.

Not sure about the Alternator though.

Hey Kevin,

Drop me an email to dan@judeperformance.co.uk and I'm sure we can save you some money.

We are based on Newcastle but we can work something out. Did a HG for a guy from Edinburgh recently.

Its already getting the head gasket fixed, but i'd be interested in a price for timing and alternator change, and the steering and geometry....if you do that?

Doesn't the timing belt need to come off to remove the head, to change the head gasket? So it should be part only for that bit?

£99 for a few litres of water and a dash of anti-freeze! Bargain!
