Change reg keeper timings

Can I just check something…

I’ll be changing the registered keeper from my (now ex) partner to me. I own the car.

Today is 31 May. VED is due 1 July.

So, if I change the reg keeper online on, say, 6 June (just because it’s after the bank holiday; I can’t do it online today because the system works 7am till 7pm) then she won’t get a refund for the remaining 20odd days because it’s not a full month, but I will have to pay for the whole of June as I’m taxing for a partial month? Unless I SORN it until the 1 July?

The system is slow at the best of times. Probably deliberately to assist people buying and selling cars. The tax from the previous owner shows up for days and days afterwards. Just keep checking the status on the DVLA website.
