I was surprised by how quiet the Countach sounded.

I think that is likely my phone. It was loud in person.

The loudest of the 3 cars we moved was the Corvette Stingray ZR2. Proper roared!

Some of you may have seen the thread of my late father-in-laws cars. He was one of the most respected classic car dealers in the UK and well known in the car world.

He bought and sold around 50,000 cars in his lifetime and held 3 amazing cars in his private collection that he has owned for many years, a 1969 Lamborghini Miura P400S, a Lamborghini Countach LP400S and a 1971 Corvette Stingray ZR2. There were also around 20 business cars that were left too, that are being auction in April.

Anyway the 2 Lambos are off to auction at Bond Street in December. It would be amazing if these ended up in the hands of a proper Lamborghini fan.

Good luck at auction. Can you advise general condition of both cars. Is there work to be done?

They have both been stored for a pretty long time. The Countach only has 6k kms on the clock and the Miura 14k miles.

The probably both need engine reconditioning, but other than that are in good condition in my uneducated view. They were my father-in-laws pride and joys and he's owned the Miura since 1995 and the Countach since the 80's.

If you are interested, I know people have been contacting Bonhams to view the cars and check on condition.

Thanks for the info. I'll keep an eye on the proceedings.

Thanks to anyone that bid on the cars.

The Countach is off to San Francisco, to someone that already owns a Countach. It sold for £400k

The Miura we aren't sure where that is heading yet. That sold for £940k

Next up is the Corvette Stingray ZR2 that has made its way to the US and goes to auction at the end of January. https://www.bonhams.com/auction/28009/preview-lot/...

Looking at Bonhams results the above figures are without buyer commissions,

£1,067,800 total for the Miura and £460,000 for the Countach,

Although not many lots entered most were sold so with the above lots does highlight

the commissions on top of the hammer price, looks like Bonhams had a good day. mind

you i wouldn't want to pay their light bill.

They made a fortune! Crazy money!

We have the ZR2 selling next Friday in Arizona! Then at Goodwood in April the rest of my Father In Laws business cars will be sold!

I imagine Bonhams will be puffing on cigars!

its actually so nice to see period correct yellow and black plates. nobody used/ still made black and white plates till the 90's. First thing we did when we bought a car in 70's / 80's was remove the black plates. When the Muira came out it was new and high tech, its unlikely any owner wanted to be associated with old bangers.
Lovely cars, I've always been a Porsche man because i was practical but deep down inside i already lost that argument.

I very much enjoyed this film by Simon Kidston. Very interesting story about the last RHD Miura. Featuring Valentino Balboni. I almost had a tear in my eye.

Thanks for linking to this video.
I have met both of these interesting guys. Francois was a customer and friend, Valentino during my visits to the factory.

Valentino is 10 months older than me, his Birthday is in a few days time. He was already at the factory when I first visited in 1972.

In 1971 Roger was at the factory with Nick Van Der Steen in a meeting with Ubaldo Sgarzi to negotiate taking on the UK importer role. Ubaldo had to leave to meet the German importer who had arrived to collect some cars. His secretary miss Ingrid was left to arrange rooms at the Hotel Real Fini in Modena and Valentino became the driver. I believe that at this time he had not taken on the role as a test driver.

Francois was a dentist from South Africa. I met him in 1973 when he ordered his Miura. Later in the 70's I shared a house with Roger Phillips and Francois often came to stay. The parties were good ! This video brought back great memories for me and I would like to say "they have not changed a bit" but in truth we are all just a little bit older.
