If celebrities attend a F1 event there’s a fair chance they didn’t buy a ticket so if they are there it’s presumably because they want to promote their profile or an upcoming event or product.
Some are understandable petrol heads and if they are approached by Martin Brundle or another media person they may well recognise them and be happy to chat.
If you are there not having bought your ticket and don’t recognise the people involved with F1 then have the courtesy and good manners to be prepared to chat to people who approach you with a microphone in their hand.
If you’re not prepared to chat then don’t bother attending the event.

Most “celebrities’ will have to google F1... to see who the drivers & teams are irked
( They probably don’t bother with the interviewers...mere peasants.)

They're there because they're invited and spoiled rotten. Why would they say no?

I can understand why they shy away from interviews too - because they know nothing about the sport.

But the sports owners have decided after decades of experience in sporting events that it's more valuable for general viewership to invite them. I can understand that, the way the world is these days.

If it were about getting the biggest F1 fans on to the grid this entire sub forum, except Sparta, would get an invite every weekend. The reality is however, we won't attract as many new followers to the sport.

Must have been someone with enough followers of the correct demographic to justify her placement on the grid.

Her name is Simone Ashley. In Bridgerton and Sex Education (Netflix).
Hardly a ‘mega celeb’ and this makes her look quite bad.
Five seconds of ‘I’m here with (company) and support (driver) and having a great time’ would be be enough.
Now she has to get people to talk for her? Pathetic.

Anyway I thought the grid visitors had to sign something to say they were obligated to talk to live interviewers? (Maybe that’s a Monaco outlier)

Yes, say a few words and smile. Love being here and what an experience. Just don’t be rude.

It was absolutely pathetic, plus not someone who would be uncomfortable in front of a camera.

It isn’t hard to give a couple of lines about the atmosphere, pledge your support for whoever has paid for your day out, plug whatever. You’re an actress… act!

They don't want to involve themselves in an F1 conversation on any level - because they would instantly reveal themselves to know nothing about F1. Far better to look cool to their followers by 'being above' talking than to reveal themselves as clueless.

They are there by invite for the benefit of F1 to make it look like like the great and the good are interested in the sport. They just need to be seen to achieve that. At least, to pique the interest of casual viewers that have tuned in.

They accept the invite so that their followers see them being popular and doing glamorous things as it helps their profile with their followers. Their followers are shallow, they don't care if the person they're following should be there or not, they're simply impressed that they are there.

If they started to have a chat with Brundle, everyone would lose the illusion they were there to create.

I understand it's not great as fans of the sport, but it's the way it is. And I expect it's working, so expect more of it.

Of course, every once in a while there is a celeb dumped onto the grid for the sake of stardom that does take an interest and take the time to speak. Why would we want to hear from any of the others anyway?

Once again the horses arse thats the grid walk.
They need to sort this out. Why does brundle have to talk to strangers? Just get him to talk to people he knows and will answer in
a worthwhile way. Even if its the same people all the time. There are still plenty of them.
Why are the commentary team during the race only talking to Horner 99.999999% of the time? If thats ok why not during the grid walk.
Will be a struggle as sky want you to watch some old st on their channels so we all have to worship celebs even though most of them are dull nobodys without a script and 20 takes.

I think the celebrities that are rude on the grid really do themselves a disservice - I know I’m not the demographic that they’re likely to want to impress, but the ones who refuse to talk to Brundle really come across badly.

For balance, however, I thought Patrick Dempsey was both articulate and knowledgeable

I'd imagine lots of people watch 'just' Monaco GP for the spectacle, the way same most of those people on the grid aren't going to be at any other GP that season.

You also have to remember that this falls at a time where lots of other things are happening in that part of the world, Cannes, amfAR etc, it's just part of the circuit that the celebs trawl at this time of year. Obviously the whole thing is pathetic, but that's the celeb world for you. At least with Wimbledon you tend to get those who actually have a vague interest in watching the sport...

The saddest thing is Liberty and Sky both buy into it, by talking to them and focussing on them with pictures etc, they think we are interested, because they are.

As I say lots of times, emperors new clothes, it really is such a fake show.

Turned up to the middle of the TV circus that is F1, on Tag Heuer's ticket, blanks an ex-driver who could hardly seem a nicer guy in a world where everyone's out to slate everyone.

Punt the entitled fkwits off the grid, give their pass and the watch to a kid trying to listen from outside and let them talk to Brundle.
