Lots being said about Daniel’s seat at McLaren not being secure but should he do a seat swap with Alonso?

Alonso would like a car nearer the front of the field and Lando shows that with the McLaren it is possible. Zak gets a two time World Champion who has raced for the team before.

Daniel may be happier in a Renault/Alpine again and Ocon is a known. Bet Zak isn’t fun to work for if things aren’t going well.

Probably the only other seat out there is at Aston replacing Sebastian but who’d want to drive for the Strolls.

I don't understand why everyone raves about Alonso. Sure he won two world championships with Renault/Benetton or whatever it was in 2005 & 2006, but nothing that magnificent since. You can argue all you want about being in the wrong car at the wrong time but put him in say the Red Bull and I still think he'd be kicked into the weeds by Max Verstappen.

Well 2 world championships
Monaco
Le Mans outright win

Not sure if you saw a race earlier this year he was in absolute fire overtaking so many.

Alonso is an excellent driver, there’s no question. Personally might be too much of a diva but he has the speed, better than Vettel that has more works titles.

People that think Alonso is/was “just” another 2 WDC missed his overtake of Schumacher on the 130R in Suzuka in 2005 (amongst many other moves over the years).

Guy is not what he was, sure but one of the greats in my view on pure ability.

Did you watch his Ferrari season where he came within a Petrov of winning the championship in a far inferior car to the Red Bull?

Zac has far too many options that would be cheaper and arguably better than alonso, his indy car stable has some real up and coming drivers.

The "oldy but goody" experiment hasn't worked. Young drivers have (Lando and Carlos)

Indeed!! I always believed he brought 2 tenths to any car he drove compared to his team mates in general.

Matt has probably not followed his career from the beginning. He is well respected amongst drivers, including Hamilton. As a driver at least it will be difficult to find many criticisms.

Aside from Montoya who else has really switched/and done well from Indy to F1?

I have to agree with others who question the drivers from across the pond. We’ve had up and coming drivers come into F1 and they struggle. McLaren need two drivers working near the front. I thought Daniel would do that with Lando but i was mistaken.
McLaren needs two drivers who know the circuits and F1. I cannot think of someone better than Daniel who is available at the moment.

We were just discussing who would you put in the mclaren. You couldn't get anyone you want from the top. The only ones who would want to come mclaren wouldn't want. Alonso as discussed in other threads is probably fast enough but does anyone want that headache? Hulk not quick enough. An f2 winner, nick defries , Oscar piastri, won't be quick enough. Albon MAYBE

They're American. Alonso isn't.

Not a massive fan of Alonso, however ... he is a great. I would say that his best season / best driving was in a year he didn't win the WDC. The stats don't really tell the whole story.

Both just need to retire. Throw Seb in there as well.

Sport needs some young blood. The most exciting drivers to watch are the ones that are now 3/4 seasons in (Russell, Norris, CLC etc)

These old timers have had their day.

Gasly or Piastri would be a good fit. Piastri is already on the Mclaren reserve list and I don't think Alonso or Ocon are going anywhere soon.

Danny Ric has surprised me, but unfortunately not in a good way. He does seem to really struggle to adapt to new cars and has really struggled against Lando. I feel for him, as he really needed to get out of the toxic environment at RBR, but there weren't many options left available to him.

+1 for Gasly

Alonso has too much baggage.
