85ft is not a cheap boat but I think calling it a ‘superyacht’ is a bit of a stretch.

Does 26m count as a superyacht these days? I mean I know there’s a cost of living crisis on and all that but really?

They're probably thinking back to the days when a couple of million was a lot of money for a weekend toy.

Wonder who this belongs to?
Someone who's surname ends with ov or ski?

Technically yes, it goes on length. https://vanislemarina.com/when-is-a-boat-a-yacht/ says 78' plus. But I agree, it's like calling an M5 a supercar.

24m+ load line length is superyacht.

Technically, it's unlikely the LLL was 24m in this case, but most people would class it as a superyacht for being over 24m.

I'm obviously being a bit simple, what point are you trying to make?

Burns well doesn’t it?

https://youtu.be/9wZ6mDf16eI

It always seems a bit odd to me seeing something on fire in the water like that. Must be very ‘frustrating’ having water all around you but being unable to extinguish the fire with it.

Fibreglass and diesel both burn 'well' once alight, this was very sadly a winning combination of the two.

Ouch, and I wonder if other vessels have been impacted?

Why it caught fire will be subject to investigation by insurance investigators and others, but boats (whatever their size) rarely self combust.

Hope nobody sustained injury?

Not much of it left to investigate. And they'll need what is left of it off the bottom first.

Terrible waste.

Seems rather coincidental that it was moored at the end of an otherwise empty set of pontoons, which are as rare as hens teeth…or did the other boats get moved mid fire?

Only spot for a boat of that size, and will have been pre-booked.

I’m not questioning where it was parked…more the fact no one was parked nearby!

Maybe they had time to move them?

I suspect there will enough left to determine the probable cause, plus CCTV and witness statements.

A boat moored in a marina catching fire is rare, and given many other boaters will be onboard or regularly visiting their boat this time of year, it won't take long to determine the events of this accident.

If that is the case then it just got a whole lot more interesting, was it arson before the UK could seize it or was it just an accident and who would the insurance payout to, etc, etc.

No self-respecting Russian mobster would have a yacht that small...
