Seemed wise to keep this out of the race threads, and not relevant for 2023 speculation.....

Seems F1 is determined to keep it's position as some sort of self-congratulatory old-boys club, with newcomers and "riff-raff" not allowed to enter even if they meet all the written-down requirements.

Yes, 20 cars might well be a big enough grid, if you don't want to change, don't want to think about new things and continue to race on circuits where 20 Minis wouldn't have enough space.

Domenicalli seems to firmly in Ferrari's pocket on this, as they would lose most finacially, with any re-writes of historical funding agreements.

...and how is Andretti Autosport not a significant player in the motorsport world?

I think it’ll happen, because FOM/Liberty want it to happen. It might take another couple of years though.

It’s a case of making sure the prize money pie is sufficiently bigger, in a way that it wouldn’t be without an (other) American team involved. The existing team shareholders have put in a lot of money over the yeas, and now we have the financial cost controls in place want to realise returns on some of that investment.
