LCD TV for up to £1,000 - suggestions please

This is one for the gadget guys/galls out there. I'm after a LCD TV for the bedroom for up to £1,000, size 20" - 26" and nice and thin to allow it to be wall mounted. Have any of you been down this route and what are the ones to go for.

JVC LT26DS6, absolutely no doubt about it (26".

If you can just breach the £1k mark, Hitachi's 32PD5200 plasma is no less superb and 'future proof.'

We've got a 23" Phillips, very thin, great picture and wall mountable. Also available in 26" and both I believe are less than a grand.

Pah... Bought a 52" rear projection for that!!

It is worth paying a bit more for better quality. You'd be surprised how crap some of these lcd tv's can be...

Looked at a lot, I favour the Panasonic Viera 26" - forget the exact model number, but now just dropped below £1k mark in the highstreet, cheaper online.

Not trying to drag off topic, but what's the point in spending over the odds on an LCD screen unless it's got a few years in it (i.e. enough resolution to run HD at some point). The cheaper LCDs, from what I've seen, have oddball low-res screens that may be just about acceptable with normal TV but is it worth the premium?

There are 23" LCD high-res computer monitors available for a good deal less than £1k, but then you've got the hassle of co-opting an old computer to do TV tuning and DVD playing, etc. (this is probably a better bet if you're off the geekish persuasion).

Have things got that much better? I bought a 23" LCD tv a year or so ago, it's not worth mentioning here due to budget but it is dual purpose with computer input, so writable against tax as computer equipment However it has 1280x720 res so usable for the first type of HD.

From my experience of LCDs (had to use them since when they were stupid money due to space constraints), the backlight is a massive part of the viewing quality... esp. for TVs where you may be sitting much further away than with a computer. Definitely try them out in an averagely lit room at your normal viewing distance before deciding. And try not to believe salesperson BS about 'after 50 hours the screens get brighter, sir' as I had that one foisted on me
