Time for an early evening rant.
Wifelet did something nice for me last night (Stop sniggering at the back, its not what you think) and this morning I ordered a bunch of flowers, blah blah blah, they screwed up, no flowers.

The crux of the matter is that time after time I receive bad service from 'service companies' and it can't just be happening to me, so it must be happening to a lot of people.

So if everyone is getting rubbish service from a lot of companies, how the hell are these people still in business? and hhow do these incompetants keep their jobs?

If I constantly cocked up (sorry, deferred accuracy) I'd be for the high jump, AAARGH!

And breathe!

..are you sure you know your address?

Why not write it down on a sticky label, an attach it to your socks?

I hope this helps.

Nope, my cleaner has failed to appear this week. Which is only her second week. The cleaning company don't seem to be any wiser than me and they haven't called me today to explain, like they promised they would.

To be fair, I think there is some correlation between the significant number of new business failures and the fact that the people who run them are useless articles.

It's because we British put up with it and accept it as the norm.

There is some appaling food served in restaurants, not only is the food appalling but so is the service.

More of us need to vote with our feet and wallets.

Lets put it this way, I have recently worked with a very big company who sells kitchens, beds, furniture etc, they operate at 40% of orders are on time and in full.

They are not bothered by this and still bring in 1.4 billion a year....go figure

But is this not the way this country is going (generally speaking)?

No-one gives a toss about anyone else - no consideration, respect or decency, and just trying to work out any scam to screw everyone/government for more money.

I think it's more a case that as long as your advertising brings in more customers than your crap service loses, you'll be OK. So, you want to buy a bed, or a stereo, or anything else. Where do you go? Th nearest, or the cheapest shop. If they screw up delivery you'll maybe tell a couple of people, but they don't care because another 500 people have gone there in the meantime. It's not worth them paying extra to get decent delivery schedules, because they see no benefit.

Good marketing and/or monopolies helps. Like a lot of my friends I'm self-employed and we've reached the conclusion that the morons are in the cushy high-paid jobs busy being incompetent whilst the bright, responsible folk are 'w*nking for coins'.

No, it's me too. Here's a little tale you might like:

I had a busy week at work a few weeks ago. The usual, cells rammed full after a Friday night, and not so many of us to wade through and sort them out the following day. As a result, instead of finishing at 4pm, it was nearer 10pm. I thought I'd treat* myself to some KFC on the way home.

So having spent a day dealing with people that can't hold their ale, people that like to batter their partners, obstructive solicitors and the like, I was hacked off at being there so late. Imagine my joy when I got one junction down the motorway, to find it closed for gantry works...

I eventually work my way around all the caravans and Sunday drivers in the diversion, and get to the KFC drive through (no point getting exercise by walking to the counter, is there?!). I get in the queue, but the chap in front is blocking the speaker thingy, despite having a huge gap in front of him. My blood pressure was now rising exponentially.

Mondeo man (for it is he finally inches forward, and I get to the speaker and order my salad (only joking - McMenu and large fries for the fat boy please).

"Thank you sir, that'll be an extortionate price, and a twenty minute wait - WE'VE RUN OUT OF COOKED CHICKEN..."

Er, no thanks, I'll not bother, I reply to the speaker, select R and start to back out of the drive in lane, only to be blocked by a cabbie in a Bomber, who's too stupid to realise that the V70 heading his way with the reverse lights on isn't waiting in the queue.

After a couple of minutes, the Cabbie's pea-sized prehensile brain works out what is going on, and lets me out. Just as I'm about to escape, I spy a "Manager" in a shirt and tie heading my way. I assume this chap is going to (a) apologise for the delay, and (b) offer me some freebie...

How wrong I was.

The "Manager" told me that as I'd ordered food, and the cashier had keyed in the order through the till, I'd made a contract, and he wasn't letting me go until I'd paid for the food... BP now at 200000/4.

I pointed out that if any sort of contract had been entered into between me and the store, it was on the understanding, under "custom and precedent", that I wouldn't have to wait until the next ice age to eat.

Alas, my please fell on stony ground, and the Manager went and stood at the back of my car, telling me he wasn't moving until I paid. BP now high enough to launch next Shuttle without fuel.

Tempted as I was to run the little oik over, I gently replied with "Get out of my ing way now, Johnny No-Stars, before I phone the Police, and tell them I'm being unlawfully detained..."

This didn't have quite the desired effect, as JNS has obviously been indoctrinated at the Col Sanders School of customer care, and didn't know whether to wind his arse or scratch his watch. He asked me what I knew about legal matters, and anyway, I wouldn't have the bottle to call the Police, because he'd have me arrested for deception...

Much as I dislike doing so, I then treated JNS to my somewhat younger, thinner frame on my warrant card photo. It actually took him longer to work out than the Cabbie, that it might be a good idea to move. You could almost hear the cogs turning...

I then exit stage left, and drive off into the sunset.

Yup, this beats the $hit out of me as well. I went to McDonald's once and paid £3 for a cardboard box containing a bun. They employ some in-bred banjo-playing retard whose sole job is to place the burger inside the bun and they couldn't manage that...

Rented a house once, returned some signed paperwork to solicitors on Friday afternoon in person as requested. Recipient had gone for the weekend, so gave it to a secretary to pass on to him. I asked for her name, in case it went AWOL en-route to the solicitor, and she refused 'as she did not want to take the responsibility of possibly losing it'.

I walked into Dixons and said "I'll buy this expensive Walkman right now if I can listen to it first."

"Sorry sir, we don't have any batteries."

"What about those ones displayed on the counter?"

"We can't use those..."

"Look, moron, if you put the £1 battery in the £100 Walkman I will in all probability buy it if I'm happy with the sound. If you don't I go to Currys. Comprende?"

"Uhhhhhhh????????????????????"

No-one is accountable. Initiative is an unknown concept. I called BT to have a new phone connected and was passed on to FIVE different people in an epic 1 hour phone conversation during which nothing was resolved. They managed during this time to take a deposit, which magically disappeared after I was put on hold for the next incompetent; order number sir? sorry no record of that? what are you calling about again? (cue sound of automatic gunfire...)

Things are definately getting worse. The huggy-fluffy It-can't-be-my-fault attitude is getting out of control. Wait until they replace exam failure with 'delayed-success' in schools...
