Lease car put back 5-6 months

I can't be the only person in this position at the moment ?!!

Was told a few weeks ago that my Kia Sportage was on its way (yippee I thought) but have received an email today saying that its been delayed until November !!

I know its not the end of the world and I count myself lucky I don't like in the Ukraine but its still an inconvenience.

My current car is due back in early July so I thought I had plenty of time - i need a car for my job so have no idea what to do !

I could contact my current lease company and look for an extension but this isn't such great option as it would mean I would have to put my A250 through its 3rd service and MOT. Even worse it would mean driving it around with no warranty !

So what have other people done who find themselves in a similar position ? Should the Lease company allow me to cancel it ?

What with current 2nd hand car prices i don't really fancy a PCP !

I'd speak to the lease co. about the warranty, but would expect the cost/hassle of a 3rd service and MOT on top of your lease payment to be significantly cheaper than either buying a car or renting something for 6 months?

Either that or cancel the Kia and look for lease deal where the car you want is in stock.

Really?

My car hasn't had a warranty for years, nothing has exploded, collapsed or stopped working..

I see your point and chances are it would be fine - but Mercedes charges are crazy and imagine paying money out for a car you don't even own !

I'm in the same boat but last lease went back in Feb and (supposedly) getting new one in July.

I went out in January and bought a 2010 A3 convertible for £5k. Was a great price at the time and will hopefully get a bit more for it selling in July, so should work out basically free. #manmaths

Although now I've had it a few months I'm getting a bit attached to it!

Good lease co's allow you to cancel if the build has not started.

Bad ones have some hideous T&Cs that seek to penalise you

I'd be looking at sheds on eBay as a contingency/stop gap

There could very easily be another delay. Just extend and service the bloody thing.

My last car - a 15-year-old £5,500 Audi - I drove for six months and it made me money - even including maintenance and road tax, I think.

Buy wisely and used cars needn’t cost anything for short-term driving…

It's an odd market at the minute though. £5k doesn't get you a lot and dependent on what happens in those 6 months you could take a dump on both value and repairs. All about your appetite for risk, and based on the OP's concerns about a warranty on a 3 year old car I'd suggest that it's low.

It got me a good condition near-5m long V8 estate with the vast majority of the valuable kit that a new car would have. But yes, the warranty comment shows that even a new Mercedes is probably too unreliable for the OP!

Wouldn’t the leasing company be responsible for repairs outside the warranty period? It’s their asset and you signed up to a deal which was a vehicle under manufacturers warranty for the full leasing period.
