BMW Missed Service History - Should I buy?

Looking for some advice on a potential car purchase, BMW 5 GT 2L d, not many of these around so finding an alternative one may take a while. Car is 2016 with 40k miles , it has BMW service on the i-drive at 10k and 23k, but nothing since then , the dealer will do a service prior to collection , but I'm concerned that the car has been run for something like 3 years without any service done.

Should I dodge a bullet and pass this one ?

Service intervals are 2 yrs or roughly 18000 miles depending on driving style whichever comes first.

Its due an oil / oil filter change this time.

Whether you believe in 2 year service intervals is a matter for you. Many do an annual oil / oil filter change

If you're saying that the last 23k service was done 3 years ago then it's 12 months late indeed. It depends if you intend to keep it for a long time or not. In 10 years time I don't think it will matter. If you are selling in 2 years time then potential buyers will we asking the same questions, well some of them anyway.

If someone can’t be bothered or can’t afford to get a car serviced for 3 years I highly doubt they will have looked after anything else. I would definitely swerve that and go for something that has actually been looked after.

It should have been serviced every 2 years so looks like it’s overdue by a year which isn’t great.

It should not be an approved used car if its a bmw dealer. No service for 3 years will void any used car warranty..Could be that the idrive has not been updated. The dealer can read the service history from the key. Get them to check key- if cant be proved that car was serviced on time-avoid. Not unknown for dealers to miss both updating Idrive or key so if they say have record of work being done get them to update key and idrive before proceeding.

Thanks everyone for the replies , I think most of you are confirming my thoughts to pass on the car. It's not BMW selling the car so checking the key could be difficult. It could be ok but then again if it goes bang in a year or so .... I think one poster read my mind in that if the car has been driven for about a year with the service light on what else has the owner not done.
