So we are currently running Sonos in our house everywhere, and we all use Apple iPhones, MacBooks, etc.
Sonos sounds great, but the app is scheisse and the system is slow to connect, gets confused frequently and doesn't display on your Lock Screen when you want to play/pause, adjust volume etc.

Anyway a friend has a few HomePod minis and they sound great, so I was pondering whether buying a couple of the big HomePods for the lounge as mains, then using mini's as surrounds and everywhere else would be any good. The other option would be to upgrade the older Sonos speakers to Airplay 2 compatible; that's eight of the twelve we currently have though, so would be just as costly to do.

So, has anyone tried or currently use HomePods for their home audio needs? Is this is bad idea? Thoughts?

I'm not sure you can do that.

I have some lof the larger Homepod's and they are brilliant.
I would stick to an established method of getting surround sound.

After 10 years with Sonos what I can say with some authority is just about all the issues you’re having with Sonos probably aren’t Sonos but are with your network. Might be worth figuring out if that’s the case and if so improve the Wi-Fi setup.

If it is the network then homepods will have all the same issues most likely...

FWIW in the build I’m doing right now I’ve specified cat 6 to every Sonos in the house so it will all be wired on a single switch, but then my house is especially Wi-Fi proof…

A lot of the issues I had with Sonos went away when I plugged one of them in. They move over on to their own network then and off the wifi, reliability has been a lot better.

Having worked with Sonos almost since launch i can hinestly say that the way they have transitioned to S2 app and functionality has been atrocious and alot of my customers with older systems are just using Spotify to push music into the system.

I dont actually recommend it anymore to anyone who doesnt already have it.

Better more robust systems out there now with better consideration of thier customers (from current experience - may 2022)
