Fast family mover required

You all love these threads, I know you do.
I am on the hunt for a new family friendly daily. I have narrowed down my requirements below, opinions please?
- Estate / soccer mom SUV (need the boot for a small dog crate and pram)
- Fast (subjective I know, but nothing pedestrian or I'll get bored and sell it after a month)
- Nothing fragile, needs to be fairly dependable
- £6000 give or take
- MPG not hugely important, my commute is c. 10miles each way
- Bonus points for something interesting/exclusive
Current thoughts are a Legacy or something T5 Volvo. But interested to see where other peoples money would be?
Thanks!

Octavia VRS estate shouldn't be discounted
Great all rounder by the looks of things actually, definitely on my list. It's basically 'good' at everything. It's not 'fast' as such but 'quick' (at least in standard form), likewise it's not the last word in handling but it's good enough for an enjoyable early morning out on the country lanes. Space wise it's got a really decent amount of space, the boot is huge, the interior seems to be pretty hard wearing, DSG is excellent if you can afford it. For whatever reason the MK2 didn't come with parking sensors as standard so that's worth looking out for if you want them. On the MK3, they don't get the heated windscreen and adaptive cruise as standard.
If you get a manual one and it's been mapped, budget for an uprated clutch because the OEM ones are marginal.

In overland spec, the Boston sound system is tremendous, although slightly lacking for modern connectivity.

Subaru Forester XT, 2005-onwards has 211bhp, and 0-60 around 5.5s. From experience, they're big enough inside for 1-2 children plus dog in the back, and also from experience the 2.5T engine doesn't automatically grenade as the miles go on. Look after them and they're pretty damn good...

2006, 91k miles, 2 owners, blue, just under GBP6k

Of those two, if it all checked out I'd have no qualms about taking the red one, and keeping 3k in the pocket should it be needed.

Unless you want apportion off £1-2k of your budget for the inevitable repair bills.....I'd probably probably stick with something from Lexus, Nissan or Subaru at this price point.....you just know a 5.0 BMW or Mercedes is just waiting to surprise you with a myriad of dashboard lights.....

Yeah this is my fear. Although my last relationship with an Impreza STI didn't end well, so not many marques are truly exempt from this.Edited by MattyD803 on Thursday 28th April 07:54
