Keeping a Special Edition original

Looking at buying a Merlot, as in i've seen one that looks in good shape, not specifically targetting that model. Is there a general thought on keeping the Merlot spec ? Not keen on the grey interior and undecided on the alloys. Would changing these out be seen as sacrilegious ?

If you have the storage space, keep the old bits so the next owner can replace if required.

I can’t really see these cars being worth a fortune so I’d just keep the original bits and crack on with your plans.

Great choice of edition, my OH had one for 14 years & 140,000 miles.



As others have said, unless it's mega low mileage, unlikely to be worth huge amounts in the future IMO; condition will matter more than the edition.

And those seats are a bit iffy

Merlot sold before I got there, but, just pulled the trigger on a K reg V-Spec. Has been slightly modded in the interior but will definitely be going with preferred styling over original styling !!!!

I’m I’d keep to original spec personally. I hold and attend classic car events and it seems the most admired cars of all types are the restored to original.

There’s a million “special” edition mx5 variations so wouldn’t worry too much.
