Sonos one outdoor enclosure
Discussion
Ok so moisture proof doesn’t equal waterproof, so be aware that there’s a possibility that they die.
I’ve had plenty of ip65 rated kit over the years fail (Ip cameras etc) because once you bring heat / cold into the mix things get tough on tech, which is why the stuff that really works is expensive. And ip65 is technically waterproof (low, pressure jets), moisture resistant just means that they built it and realised it,still, works in a steamed up bathroom, you may protect it, and it might work, but you’re taking a risk.
Having said that plenty of people out there on the internet seem to report running play 1s on balconies or porches, ie covered environments, but most of these folks are in the US in places where it doesn’t seem to rain much - eg California etc. also, worth noting that The official operating range for a Sonos is 0-40 degrees C, so if you’re doing this then considering if you will bring the Sonos inside when it gets seriously cold or hot (a black speaker in the sun in the summer is going to get toasty) is worth considering.
Sonos moves come up at 350 quid plus on eBay, which is about the cost of a couple of play 1, that is ip56 rated, so short of chucking it in a pool you’ll be fine, that’s what I’m using now until I figure put landscaping the garden at which point I’ll install proper outdoor speakers of some kind..
Just a thought, but - Why do you need to mount them outside permanently? I used to use my gen 1 play5 as an outdoor speaker, just ran power into the garden with outdoor sockets, and then it was really easy to plug it in whenever I wanted to be outside with music, and bought it back in at the end of the day….
