I'm having a mould taken of my roof panel with a view to creating a carbon fibre alternative. Expected to be c.30% lighter.

Sharing tooling cost brings over unit £ down.

Anyone else interested?

A good idea but you have to bear in mind the tolerances will be different between cars, so one size may fit all but with various degrees of fettling and I don't know how practical that is with carbon fibre.

A valid point - I'm sure a solution can be found. Maybe I can leave my old roof at the place doing it for test fitting purposes.

Can I take it you are interested?

You were doing the same 9 years ago and nothing happened. By the end of the 3 page thread, you had changed the idea to a smoked polycarbonate panel.

What is going to be different this time except that the price will probably have doubled. The factory panel isn't heavy. Carbon fibre is just expensive plastic. The weight saving won't be more than 3 kgs. The price won't be less than 4 figures, and then it will have to be painted for many people.

All the problems raised 9 years ago are equally valid now.

Thanks for linking into the previous thread - a missed opportunity not doing that.

The car is currently in for interior and exterior refurb, plus having some bits done, hence raising again.

On the contrary, I think there was quite a lot of positive interest.

P.S. Cheer up wink

Next time just revive the old thread rather than making a new one about the same subject exactly, or were you trying to hide the fact that no one was interested 9 years ago and pretend that it's your new idea?

Too difficult to justify for me really. If the roof came off and on every day then maybe, but it doesn't.
I do still like the idea of weight saving smile but never considered removal of the existing to be that difficult.

Can't see the need to get so up tight!?
The fella is trying to share some improvements he wants to make, nothing wrong with that. Not sure I could be bothered searching back 8 years to restart a thread.

I think it’s hot when Lucy acts like she runs PH…I wish she’d moderate me some more wink

I don’t consider my roof being that heavy, so I’m not sure if the cost/benefit is there for me. However, I’ve read your car thread and clearly your Tuscan is a very special one, and such a mod would work very well for your set up.

You do realise that 'Lucy' is a pseudonym?... also goes under the names 'Vera' and 'Miss Marple', he clearly has far too much time on his hands.
