2001 NB Sport O2 sensor replacement

My 2001 NB 2.5 sport has thrown up an engine warning . The diagnostic records this as being the pre cat O2 sensor .Fault code P1170
The Haynes manual is useless , and YouTube seems not to have a handy video guiding me to replace the sensor ,so help is requested from the PH collective
I assume removing the exhaust heat shield will uncover the sensor , is this the way to go ?

That sounds like a good idea. It's only two screws I believe, so give it a try. Sensor might be tough to remove, so try some penetrative oil a few days before you start.

If it’s in the same place as mine (52 Reg NB), it’s just ahead of the CAT in the last section of the manifold down pipe. Easier accessed from under the car. The grey plastic wiring plug is on the bulkhead behind the exhaust manifold- undo this first as it wants to twist the sensor tight again.
