Morning everyone, having just qualified for 6 years no claims, I was wondering what you thoughts are on the ncd protected that can be brought with your insurance. Is it worth it? How many years do you lose if you make a claim? I''ve never had any claim or conviction in all 12 years of driving but I''ve probably just jinxed myself and will have an accident or get my car solen tomorrow

I think that the little extra to cover your no claims is a good idea, I think you can have 2 or 3 accidents in 3 years and keep your bonus, if you are unprotected you normally drop to 30% if you make a claim. I had a non-fault accident (the person hit me from behind in traffic) I nearly lost my NCD since then I make sure my bonus is protected. But remember if you claim it will still affect your premium but then a 60% discount is worth even more.

I must admit I've insured my NCD as well, simply because it might save a few quid if I ever need to make a claim. It would be even more galling to have an accident, watch the premium go up AND know you've lost a whole chunk of NCD. Hopefully I'll never need worry about it, in which case I've wasted my money, but then the same argument could be applied to all insurance - the premiums are only worth it when you have to claim.
