MX5 2022 vs 2019

Have there been many chnages on these 2, I have a 2019 2ltr I thought I recalled there was a change in engine performance for the worse

Thinking of chnaging

The only changes are the Kinematic Posture Control (KPC) that applies the rear brakes very slightly to take advantage of the anti drive geometry of the rear suspension to reduce roll on cornering, wireless carplay, and trim changes.

Engine is unchanged. They're trying to sell me a new car as mine is coming up for 3 years old but there is no reason I can see to bother.

Thanks for the reply, I did change and have noticed a difference in the performance and exhaust note, glad I changed.

Believe the carplay is not wireless, not tried it yet.

I had the lowering springs fitted which has also made a difference.

The light nappa leather has made the interior appear bigger.

My previous one was a 2ltr Sport Nav+ and the new one is 2ltr GT Sport Tech

The brochure mentions wireless car play, for last year it was only wireless on the top model I think but I'd need to check. IN any case I'm happy using the wire and not flattening my phone.

I had the dealer fit the springs to mine at pickup, I rarely ground it out and it's tamed the roll so I'd do it to any new one I'd pick up.

Mine had the sand leather, it's an absolute bd for dye transfer from jeans and I doubt the even lighter stone colour in yours will be better, so I'd suggest getting Dr Leather dye block and applying regularly to try and keep that in check.

At the point I think I'll wait and see if there ever is a Mk5 and if there isn't or if it's 200KG heavier and full of hybrid crap I'll buy the last possible ND and keep it forever!

What do you think of the sports suspension over the regular setup? I have a sport tech coming in September and am wondering whether or not to get it. Grateful for your review.

Not sure if this was directed at me, both mine had the sports suspension, however the lowering springs added to the latest car make a hugh difference in cornering, also the wheels fill the arches better

I had the mazda (actually eibach) lowering kit fitted by the dealer and would do it again with any new car, it gets rid of a lot of the roll but doesn't seem to make the ride that much worse. Car looks much better without a huge arch gap too.

Much like a 335d x drive, springs in a Mazda mx5 nd are almost obligatory. Transformational with no downsides.

Agreed . Mine was transformed , at the tiny price of slightly more firm ride. The other quick win was replacing the s/wheel with a Royal one like this

It's from Royal Steering Wheels..........they look great and are supposedly a good company to deal with.

I haven't indulged myself, yet!

Indeed - Royal are in Stoke Mandeville , a handy 300mile round trip for me , and the whole job took less than 30minutes before I was heading north again . The difference a decent wheel makes from the MX5's awful thin, slippy standard horror was apparent within 100 yards of setting off .

Excuse my ignorance but does this apply to all models? Reason I ask is on the Mazda configurator it says both the Sport Tech and GT Sport Tech models have sports suspension as standard (including Bilstein dampers) so do these models also need upgraded springs?

Mine is a GT Sport Nav+ which was the 2019 top line model, I think all the 2 litre (without a cuckbox) models come with Bilsteins and the strut brace etc and always have?

Anyway, yes the lowering springs are great with the bilstein shocks. I'm thinking about stiffer ARBs to get rid of a bit more roll but it's thoroughly enjoyable as it is.
