All, my wife's got a 20011.6 Civic auto (115,000 miles), and it could do with a new timing belt. I can't find an independent garage that will fit anything other than an aftermarket belt - even if I supplied them with a genuine Honda item. Warranty would be 12 months.

I've been quoted £400 from an indy to fit their own aftermarket belt, and am waiting for a quote from a Honda dealer to fit a genuine one, obviously expecting to to be a lot more that £400.

Question is, is it worth fititng a genuine part, or would you go with aftermarket? The car also needs a NSF damper replacing - I was going to go to Kwik Fit and get both things done at once, but they started talking abot needing to get in a "master mechanic" to do the belt, which kind of concerend me. Again, they wont fit a Honda belt.

Thanks!

Aftermarket will be fine; probably better even. Just make sure it’s branded and a full kit is used - tensioner, water pump etc if necessary.
