Im probably being anal.

Currently Goodyear vector all seasons gen2 all round, however just had a puncture and these have now been superseeded by the gen 3 version so ive ordered one to replace the puncutred one. Bad form?

What's the difference in tread between the two? Is it a driven axle?

Very different tread depth can mess on a tiny level with fancy diffs and the like, but in reality on a normal car you'll probably see no noticeable difference unless you are doing track days or are some sort of drift king.

I like to have 4 matching tyres so I know where you’re coming from, it would bug me having to have an odd one.

For all practical purposes it will make no noticeable difference in normal day to day driving though, you’ll be fine.

I'd imagine if you looked you could have ordered one the same.

If it's really an annoyance, buy a pair of the new ones.

Discontinued in my size unfortunatly. Id love to buy a pair but im not made of money, £70 for one made me wince.

You definitely don't want to be me then!

Had to get 2 full sets of summer & 1 full set of winters in the last month, over £1300 on tyres alone.

It's fine, nothing to worry about. The performance of the tyres will be close enough.

Im sure you know already, but the best is to replace all 4 tyres. VW recommends that all tyres in the vehicle are the same.

Next best is to replace across an axle in pairs.

MOT won’t fail you for mixing tyres though as long as they are both radials or both cross plies( unlikely to be found on a modern car).

I’d be weary if the other 3 tyres are well worn. Drive through a deeper patch of water at speed on the motorway and 3 tyres might aquaplane but that single tyre won’t and your car will pivot on the new tyre with grip. It might be enough to spit you off the road.

Quite a few videos on youtube showing what happens when worn and new tyres are mixed. New tyres on the front axle and worn on the rear can also be dangerous.

That is a statement disguised as a question, what is the point you are trying to make?

Well why not just repair the puncture if it was repairable?

Understood. Perhaps if it is the OP could do that & return the new one if it isn't too late.

you would hope such a thread and question would not exist if the puncture was repairable.

Agreed. I have always replaced the tyre when punctured. Punctures are so rare that the cost is worth it.

Absolutely nothing wrong with a tyre that's been plugged as a repair.
