Sorry boring question thats been asked before I'm sure. Looking at putting a new set of pads all round on my S2 elise. I don't do track days at the moment and use my car fairly regularly. looking at eliseparts web site the choice seems to be between mintex 1144's or pagid RS42's. The Pagids are nearly double the cost of the mintex so my question is are they worth the extra cash for fast road use only?

Cheers guys

Shouldn't really need ceramics if you're not tracking the car. Unless you drive like a complete mentalist on the road that is

I run RS42s - cant comment on the Mintex but I wouldnt run anything other than RS42s myself. Try the Mintex if you like and see how they compare to the std Lotus pads (which are expensive and not very good in the wet)

FYI, RS4-2 are carbon metalic pads, not ceramic.... (RS14 are)

I've just put redstuff ceramics on the front and greenstuff on the rear. Haven't had them long enough to comment though. Someone did say the 1144 are now a very old compound and that there are better products out there.

Thinking about getting the Green stuff pads from eliseparts. Anyone tried them???? not too bad at under £100 for the set. I'm not paying double that for brake pads...

I put greenstuff pads on my Elise just before I sold it. It did have virtually new Pagids on so I took them off and will put them on the Exige.

Greenstuff were ok for normal road use but dont bother if you do lots of hard driving or trackdays.

Matt,

I had greenstuffs on my S1 111s, which were a little long in the tooth to say the least!

I fitted the Mintex 1144s.

I am very pleased with the performance for fast road use - way better than my aged green stuffs.

Good solid pedal (braided hoses help), very progressive, and stop me on a sixpence when needs be.

I imagine they might go off more quickly than Pagids on the track but I don't track my Liz so not a problem.

Sounds like you are in the same situation. The Mintex are very good value if you are "Lizzing" on a budget.

green stuff: the scrapings off the workshop floor.(I have used them - in my hillclimb car - and they were awful).

Mintex 1144: I run these in the Elise just now. They can squeal a little when cold but once warmed they're quiet. Pedal feel improved, easier to modulate to point of lock up.

I think Pagids would be good, but not sure if they're worth the price increase over the Mintex.

I've just replaced my Pagid Rs 4-2's with another set of Rs 4-2's.

They lasted 25,000 ish miles and a few track days yes they are expensive but they do seem to last much longer than the mintex/green stuff IMHO.

And there is no fade unless you are giving them serious abuse on track and they work from cold I can see why everyone raves about them.
