Whilst I’m sure this has been done before, I can’t ever recall having to buy a motorcycle battery.

My 2015 Kawasaki ZX6R 636 Performance Edition has recently started to discharge its battery faster then usual and needs to be replaced.

The bike is used intermittently often with gaps of up to 5 weeks, and is not used in the winter.

What type of battery would you recommend for such usage.

Get a battery conditioner. It may mean you don't need to get a new battery yet but it'll mean your new battery won't go the same way.

I'd personally buy a new battery (if its the original) and a conditioner. If its still on the original battery then it will be on it's way out and you won't want to be left in the lurch when it does go.

Li-ion batteries are lighter but have their disadvantages, just get a decent Yuasa/BS Battery/Motobatt or similar. Have a look on your model forums for specific advice. Won't need much cranking power for a 636 4-cyl.

Thanks and where would you recommend purchasing from.

Tayna offer good prices and service on car batteries therefore I would expect similar with bike batteries.

Another here for Tayna, and their Varta bike batteries are very good quality at a sensible price.
