BMW EGR Cooler Problems, Resolved?

I have been following this board closely and I am thinking of taking a punt on a 2017 330d (F30?).

Having browsed the information highway… there was a recall on the EGR cooler on many models.

Sadly, some or the recalled ones went up in flames despite a replacement part.

There was then a second recall and things seem to have been quiet since.

Did the second recall fix it? Or is this an engine to avoid?

It’ll be my first BMW after a spate of Mercedes, Audi, and Lexus.

Hi Darren, I purchased an Xdrive 520d M Sport last August on a 17 plate, noticed it was slightly rough running and checked the recall board from BMW, It would seem that in July last year the original EGR recall was dealt with by BMW Woolwich, I still experienced problems and booked it in with my local BMW dealer in March 22, got it back after them replacing the EGR cooler valve (not the original recall according to them) cost me £450 inc vat! Weirdly the EGR recall has been suspended as in my dealers words BMW are having issues. No s**t sherlock!

This is my old 640d M Sport which I had for two years trouble free,didn't receive any recall. Sold it to this poor chap who only owned it for a month...........

Other N57 problems include failed main bearings and timing chains.

What production year was that 6?
The plate is now registered to a 4 series 3.0 diesel. You’d think the owner might not touch one again.

I have 116d 2013. I had diagnostics done by BMW and it had EGR Problem and exhaust pressure sensor. I have bought it from private dealership amd he had to fix it under waranty.
On the way the car stoped and its ome hose gpt burst amd hose from sensor came off.
Now mechanic replaced egr and sensor. But the car does not move or remain in on state. After turing on engine it the engine instantly turns off after remain on for few seconds. The mechanic is taking days to look into it but cannot fix.
Do you know what he has to do or what could be possible problem. He has checked and replaced broken hoses.

EGR recall letter from BMW last week for EGR cooler issue. 2016 F48 X1 2.0d xDrive.
In today for software update to fix. All done, no worries going forward... they say.

3 years ago after diesel sensor leak and £10,000+ bill to fix (covered by extended warranty) I asked my dealer if there was a connected issue as 268,000 cars had been recalled for an EGR cooler issue in Europe at that time.
The DP assured me there was no recall on this car for that issue.

3 years later, there is.

I have a 2016 F31 330d, had the EGR cooler replaced a few weeks ago was pretty painless.

Not sure if it's just mental but the car does seem a bit quicker and I've managed to get 60+ mpg for the first time since owning it.

Ha! I had the second EGR recall done on a 2016 F330 335d, a few months ago, and that seemed extra-sharp on the auto changes and response. It seems to have settled now, or I am accustomed to it.

My wife's 116d ed has just had it's second EGR cooler, after it was replaced the first time back in 2019.

The guy from the garage said the new one was a Borg and Warner one, which was bigger than the original, and we'll notice that
it will perform better, not to M5 standards but better than before.

And I've got to be honest, it does feel a little faster than before, given that it's not designed to be a fast car.

Aha, I wondered the recall was for.

I picked up a 2016 330D last weekend and the garage mentioned they took it to BMW for a recall a couple of weeks ago, but the dealer didn't tell them what it was. I saw LOADS of 330Ds I was interested in on MOT Check with an outstanding recall.

Anyway, I got my mate to check on the BMW system and he confirmed "Exhaust gas recirculation cooler Nx7" has been done.

My 66 plate 335d goes in this Friday, must be one of the last to be affected.

My 17 plate 640d went in for this last week.

Strangely a mile up from the dealers and ran rough for a few seconds but has been fine ever since.

2019 F31 335d went in last week, can't say i can tell any difference.

I don't think you would notice a difference as the issue was an external coolant leak onto the exhaust manifold, not the cooling function itself.

Does this current recall always result in an EGR cooler replacement?

Is there an old/new part number comparison.

Yesterday I collected a 67 plate 530d. Before I looked at the car last Sunday, I checked if the recall had been done. It had not, so I asked the dealer to make sure it was done before I collected.

I was informed that the car was ready (EGR recall having been completed), so I collected last night. This morning, looking under the bonnet, the EGR cooler doesn't look new in the same way the cooler on my previous 535d looked new.

I have a 2015 535d, and this week received a "Advanced notice of recall" about the EGR cooler. They'll send a second letter when they have the parts, apparently. They didn't indicate (hey, it's a BMW ) when that might be.
