The Saudi safety problem
Discussion
I expect teams are all home safe and sound now, and the F1 hacks are all pretending its no big deal.
This is just an opinion and im sure the relevant departments in every drivers home country will be looking in to it with purpose.
Like the french did with the previous attack.
So we had a rocket attack 5 miles from the track, and its brushed over as no big deal by the usual arab cavalier attitude to safety.
Obviously a rocker/missile/drone strike would take mere seconds extra to attack the track instead during the build up, and all the ceremony.
No wonder the drivers were upset as they were all paraded in the open as sitting ducks.
The drivers seem to have been coerced by powerful forces with F1 and the FIA ,and the new boss seems very visible amongst them
over the weekend. They cant loose face so everyone risks their lives.
Does it make any sense executing 100 people weeks before the race? We in the west know they wouldn't have been guilty of
much if anything to warrent death. Its such a locked down controlled land ,who the hell would commit a crime beyond things that attract a monetary fine in the west?
This is before you even consider the useless circuit which will injure someone badly eventually.
Yes we know the sheer greed in F1 means they wont give up that money easy ,so maybe they should have a new circuit build
somewhere else in SA further from the borders. Its not like there were many fans anyway.
F1's show is the drivers and teams. Without them they will have nothing.

I don't think they ever wanted to attack F1 directly, not unless they wanted the US and others to go over there and directly help the Saudis bomb the st out of them in retaliation.
They were actually very smart in their attack, it being close enough to the F1 circuit to scare everyone, but then reportedly announced a three day ceasefire shortly afterwards, which is what reassured the drivers enough to stay and race. It was enough to make a point and highlight the Houthi issue to the world without killing or threatening to kill any F1 drivers when they knew millions of international eyes would be on them.

As I understand
it, the plan was and remains to build a permanent circuit near Riyadh.
The Jeddah circuit
is temporary.
This, the new build circuit is bigger than Spa.it, the plan was and remains to build a permanent circuit near Riyadh.

Anyway, Riyadh is a similar distance from the border as Jeddah, so it's just as equally within missile range.
New circuit in Qiddiya will be longer than Spa apparently, and flat…. Also built around an “entertainment complex”. I can’t think what depresses me more, the billions of pounds wasted on these vanity projects with no environmental considerations whatsoever…
Or the usual turds lapping it up and sucking on the corporate teat…. Shame on you Damon

We could easily end up seeing out the SA contract until 2025 and still be in Jeddah. I don't hate that idea as much as some seem too - I think they need to address some fairly obvious aspects of the circuit from a safety POV but as street circuits go.. it has potential.

Still a bit more work to do before it's finished... https://www.google.com/maps/@24.5875337,46.3278228...Or the usual turds lapping it up and sucking on the corporate teat…. Shame on you Damon

I lived in a house for several years and maps view still showed it as a field.
Although as my post above, I do suspect they will be very behind.

I thought the Jeddah circuit was pretty dangerous without the missiles. Imagine if Latifi had ended up sideways across the track, and the following car had come round a blind bend at 170mph and t-boned him.
That’s Spa gone too then. thegreenhell said:

Agreed. The Saudi military would also have had fighter planes in the air 24/7 for the rest of the weekend, ready and able to shoot down anything else that was heading towards Jeddah. Not a nice situation to be in for the Circus, but little actual risk to themselves.
My opinion is simply that the teams were not so tied to contracts etc they should and hopefully would say this is crazy, we do not want to be here, we also should NOT be here morally let's agree to not go there.
It is not a great track, is very unsafe, nobody from the West really wants to go there, at least to that I know of, it is a grand sportwashing event.
Sadly they are all so tied up contractually and will never say anything, other than a few drivers who have spoken out on minor issues.
If say Lewis simply said I am not going, that would make a statement, but as I say he would then be out of contract and have to pay big fines, it would take something like that for me, for someone to say I don't care about fines etc, I am standing up for what I believe in, and the only person I ever see doing that is Seb Vettel.
