Is there a recognised best chain and lock combo that's a deterrent?

Doesn't have to be mega money but if it saves premium increases...

Best is generally regarded as the Pragmasis 16mm - but it's not cheap

Oxford Boss is good VFM IMO because at the end of the day they'll just cut through the wheel / frame instead

Just went through all this the other day, i would say stay away from the 16 pragmasis and go to the 19.

I remember in my research i saw a YouTube channel where they cut through various chains and locks, and the difference between the 16 and the 19 is worth it

Have a look on you tube

if you mean at home then 19mm or 22mm and a ground anchor, out and about probably 13 or 16mm

i don't declare my security, the discounts aren't worth it and the day i forget because I’m late back or too tired to be bothered is the day i get it nicked and then no cover

Owned various sportsbikes in London, always secured with Almax Series III plus a Series IV. Managed to keep all of them in my possession.

Daft thing was always that I could have got better insurance discount for some pathetic ‘thatcham’ lock that could have been chopped off with a pair of tweezers.

I went for the pragmasis 16mm with mega torc ground anchor. Very happy with it and read numerous great reviews vefore purchase.

Just one thing. Don't search for Oxford Hardcore on your computer at work.

Results can be interesting ........

I have an Almax chain/Squire Stronghold lock. Solid & so far so good.
However, the fabric sleeve is fraying & falling apart - anybody have advice on what to replace it with? Looking for cheap/free DIY option: plastic tubing might work, but does not appear to be flexible enough to thread through spoked wheels........

Another vote for Pragmasis - I've 13mm, 16mm and 19mm chains in various lengths coupled with Torc ground anchors. Also have a pair of their Double D locks for out and about and an "anti-pinch pin" - it's all top notch stuff.

Be aware that the 16 and 19mm chains are way too unwieldy and heavy for use outside of your garage.

Really you need another sleeve IIRC there are some branded ones circa £5

I think this was the cheapest I saw but haven't checked postage

What happens if you kiss your keys?

I once tried cropping a bike lock and gave up. Fire brigade came and they refused go use their posh grinder (would damage it) and in the end we had to use a combo to get it off.
