Apologies if this is a re-run, but any Cooper S owners care to highlighht what sort of fuel economny they're getting.

I've been driving one in a normal 'spirited' way and have averaged 16mpg this week. That's scary.

Sounds about right for a track day, but surely not on the road - wouldn't like to meet you coming the other way on a country lane!

If its just spirited road driving I'm surprised Clarkson has'nt made a "Special" about it along with the usual analogies about needing to be an Arab oil producer.

New MINI I take it?

I've got the Works, and it averages 25-27. If I took the p155, I would expect less than 20.

Drove it as gently as possible from/to work and managed to eke out 23mpg. That's never accelerating above 3,000rpm and virtually coasting down hills.

That sounds a bit poor to be honest. If I'm carefull, I can average 27-28 over a tank. Might be worth getting it checked.

btw, are you getting the figures from an onboard computer? or doing the sums at the pump?

Over the past 2 1/2 years, I have usually got 30-33mpg though some weeks that can drop to 28mpg.

Quite impressive considering how I drive it sometimes

likewise. our trip computer average over the first 3000 miles (including 1000 keeping it under 3000rpm) is 31.3. but to be fair a good bit of that has been on long motorway trips.

Ours has sat nav so the computer is always on, we average 30-32 constantly. However I'm quite good a reducing that...

Long run? Had 30mpg on 85-90mph run to scotland
25-26mpg day to day use meaning brisk run up A13 then some traffic chaos
sub 20mpg if I decide to havefun on local roads, Proper thirsty for a little car.
Frankly I'd say my NSX delivers broadly comparable economy.
