Weekend Toy around £50k??

Looking to sell all my smaller toys and get one bigger toy.
Looking for a weekend car that refinement and poise, along with a nice amount of power to throw down B roads.
I currently own a Westfield, TT, X5 and a few bikes.
The Westfield and bikes are going and the X5 is staying as my daily. Planning on pooling my funds into something special for the weekend, something with a little more refinement that the Westfield and can be looked after by specialists when I don't have the time.
After six-months of deliberation I have pretty much narrowed it down to either an R8 or a 911 (either 991 or late 997.2).
I love the R8 but the owning the TT as well i'm worried it won't be different "enough". The TT is fantastic, fast, nimble and reliable and I still love it after 6 years. Also, some of the maintenance on the R8 has some eye watering costs, but I guess you must accept that with what it is.
In the other corner, the 911 (to me) is more of a drivers car. I've owned boxsters and caymans before but never had a 911. It's such a classic shape, however is still a little anonymous on the road and does not have the presence that the R8 has. On the upside, servicing and maintenance is much cheaper on the 911 as parts are shared between other models.
The other slight spanner in the works is I love the open top feel of the Westfield so tempted to stick to that and go for a convertible R8 or 911, so you can hear the engine sing and look like a proper mid-life-crisis! lol But i'm not sure the coupe versions of each will be more of a future classic??
I want a car that has to be driven to be enjoyed, but not too much hence I've ruled out the mental GT-R's and the like. However, I still keep looking back at the M4's as a BMW fanboy. I absolutely love my X5 4.0 M-sport, it ticks so many boxes, and drives so so well. I discounted the F-Type after my old XFR was just too damn unreliable.
I want something that is not a daily, but still a little practical. The 911 with its two midget seats is good for a trip to Europe whereas the R8 has limited space.
If anyone has any other recommendations to throw into the ring please feel free - I might stretch the budget to £60k depending on what comes up :-)

I've had both and you'll enjoy either. None are cheap to run /fuel etc. Factor in a tracker usually for the R8 to get reasonable insurance. R8 was deceptively faster than 911 and drew much more attention.
Yeah I imagine the R8 would be the stand out model of the two. I love the idea of a V10 variant with the S-tronic. Ironically I got a couple of quotes for the insurance on the R8 and it was less than my X5, very bizarre!sjc said:

The new Lotus Emira with the AMG 45 engine should come in around £60k and would be a perfect size, you might have to wait a while for one though.
A Maserati Granturismo MC Stradale is more practical than either the 911 or R8 and can be had in budget.

I think i'd prefer an M2 Comp over an M4 personally. Although, having tried the latter whilst owning another BMW at the time, I struggled to find a spark of 'specialness' in it, especially on the inside.
Like you, I love the 997.2 but the way the prices have gone doesn't quite sit right with me now, especially vs a nice Cayman R.

I've just sold my R8 V10 S Tronic Plus and I can tell you it was nothing like a TT, the sound alone will blow your mind, They aren't expensive really to look after but you'll want to get it looked after by the best (RE Performance), and finding one for 50k that has been maintained well and is worth buying would be difficult if I'm honest.
AMG GT? They're starting to creep under £60k and expect that trend to continue.

I always wonder with Maserati being Italian it comes with the same awful reliability of everything else I've owned that is Italian, Ducati, Fiat, Benelli :-(

I had the C63 dilemma a few years ago and went with an XFR, which I had gone with my heart and picked the C63. Its a little too over on the daily side of things now to justify as a weekend toy.Evora with some tuning done to it?

I love the M2, I've just been offered one this afternoon tbh, which means I shall have plenty of funds left over to burn no extortionate fuel prices :-) I just worry that as a drivers car it will be blinding, but will it give you that "feeling" of something truly prestige?
I totally agree with the 997.2, that is my biggest bugbear, I'd rather pay a little more for an early 991. My pal who works for Porsche was telling me that their common fault parts are on a worldwide shortage at the mo so finding one in tip top condition is as rare as hens teeth :-(

I'd definitely go for the V10, the sound of that lamb engine screaming is incredible. I'd look for an s-tronic as well over the r-tronic. One of my clients works at Audi and he said that combo is the best of the bunch :-) SWoll said:

I'll be the token redneck here and come up with something totally different....
C7 Corvette (though only a 2 seater it does offer a fair amount of luggage capacity; are meant to be reliable; glorious noise; LHD which may or may not be an issue, if you're doing Euro-trips maybe not; rare over here)
Personally I'm a fan of the Challenger but I suspect it might be a little 'blunt' for your tastes
