Hi all,
I have a problem with my drivers side door window which does not always drop (8/10) when closing the door and ends up hitting the seal.
Looking online it looks like it is an actuator issues. Anything me have any experience of this and advice?
Thanks,
You may be aware of all this information already, so apologies if I’m repeating what you already know….but here goes.I have a problem with my drivers side door window which does not always drop (8/10) when closing the door and ends up hitting the seal.

There are 3 microswitches in each door. One on the inner door handle, one on the outer door handle, and one in the door lock mechanism. When you pull either inner or outer handle, the first bit of travel activates the micro switch (you’ll hear it click) and the window drops around 10mm. The door glass stays down until the door is fully closed again, and the micro switch in the door lock is activated telling the ECU to raise the window.
A Porsche scanner will allow you to test the correct actuation of all 3 micro switches.
If the glass isn’t always dropping on the initial pull of the handle, it could be a faulty micro switch. Alternatively, it could be a faulty window motor or regulator.
If the electric window switch allows the window to drop and rise correctly, and without any noises or erratic movement, then it’s safe to assume that both the motor and regulator are ok, and points towards a faulty micro switch.
If you’ve had a flat battery, sometimes the window upper and lower limits need calibrating, or relearning. There’s various online guides as to how to do this, but essentially with the doors closed, you just hold the electric window switch down until the glass reaches the bottom of its travel, then continue to hold the switch down for 10. Repeat the process for the window going up.

I have this on my Boxster. Only drops when I pull the handle all the way and the door lock mechanism starts to open the door. System seems to realise the window hasn't yet dropped and therefore does it.If the glass isn’t always dropping on the initial pull of the handle, it could be a faulty micro switch.
So how do I fix the micro switch in the outer door handle?

It does sound like the outer door handle micro switch is faulty. The door will be dropping once the micro switch in the door I k is activated once the door is actually opened. You could test the operation of the micro switches with a scanner. So how do I fix the micro switch in the outer door handle?
You can purchase the outer door handle micro switch from Porsche, for a 986 it’s around £30.
Lots of online guides on how to change it, but it’s door panel off, and then removal of door handle to get access to the micro switch. Make sure battery is disconnected as the window can sometimes get a signal to go down, and you really don’t want your hand in there.

The 987/997 doesn't have any microswitches on the handles, like 986/996.
The system uses the internal lock swithes to tell window motor what to do.
This is not correct. The outer door handle on both a 987 and 997 does have a micro switch. The part number is 99761312502 if you wish to check. The system uses the internal lock swithes to tell window motor what to do.

Not got a scanner, but maybe I should get one. Can you recommend one and it will it be able to turn off an air bag light?
Give Gendan automotive in Swansea a call, they can recommend one. I use a Pocom Porsche scanner, it reads and tests all modules. This one needs a laptop to operate it.You could alternatively get a cheaper generic scanner (Autel or Foxwell) that’ll reset the airbag warning light, but they may not be able to test micro switches. Gendan will be able to advise you.
Lastly, you could just remove the door card, and use a basic test meter (in continuity setting) to test the operation of the door microswitch.
