The Wheel Specialist Aberdeen
Discussion
What standard are you looking for? How picky are you? The Wheel Specialist did a set of Porsche wheels for me (not my choice but I wasn't paying - long story). I certainly wouldn't say they did a bad job at all, but nor would I say it was espeically great. Most poeple would have been perfectly happy with them, but as someone who is picky and details his car, I was underwhelmed. As I say, they weren't bad, but I've seen better finishes. That may or may not be helpful, but in short, if you just want them tidied up they should be fine, but if you want them to look perfect I'd maybe keep looking. I've got a set of wheels in the garage they did if you wanted to see for yourself.
Never used them but heard mixed reports when I was asking for recommendations recently. We had the wheels on my wife's Jag XF done last week at Marx Vehicle Paint and Alloy Center in Altens - prices I'd say were towards the high end of the reasonable bracket but the quality of finish looks excellent to me, I'll definitely use them again.

Do you have any photos of these? Was hoping most folk were going to come along and say they were excellent...could do with somewhere relatively convenient for dropping off as it'll be the car and not just wheels I need to leave.
I used The Wheel Specialist for both my Golf and TT refurbs but they were expensive and seemed like limited paint choice.
I used https://marxpaintandalloy.co.uk/ for my Porsche as they were recommended by the dealership. Far better paint selection and choice of finish. Very happy with how mine turned out.
They're close to you as well in Altens.

I used The Wheel Specialist back in 2012 for my GTA wheels.
The finish has stood up well over the years, but there are a few imperfections. A couple of spokes have little bumps likes there is grit under the finish and there is a small drip/run like defect on another. You have to be cleaning or closely inspecting to see this.
More recently, end of 2020, I used Platinum Powdercoating for our Subaru WRX. I wanted OE Prodrive anthracite which they ordered no issue and gave me the extra for the centres. The finish is good, no imperfections found and it is lasting well. Price was good.

Have contacted Platinum about coating my Civic Type R wheels black, 3-1/2 years old and looking a bit scabby now with stone chips. £250 all in including removing them from the car is pretty good for a set of 4. will get them booked in.
I used them once, wasn't that impressed - asked for standard silver and they came back a fairly dull, flat grey. Loads of powder on the mating faces too, for me that's a red flag as it can make it impossible to properly balance and align the wheels.Rod200SX said:
What's the going rate for a set of 4 alloys these days? Our cheapo Lexus GS300 is needing the wheels done and I've typically done it DIY in the past but I quite like this car looking less bodged than my old ones
Customised Coatings in Newmachar often do a set of wheels up to 19" for £195. I've never used them to offer my opinion, but their reviews and pictures on Facebook look good. I wouldn't go near the Wheel Specialist in Aberdeen. Made a terrible job of my wheels and a few others I know about.

Gloss black and a set done in Gunmetal grey.
It will be between them and AB coatings for my next set to get done.

Speaking to Marx in Altens, need the windscreen resealed and they do glass, too. So thinking two birds with one stone as they do windscreens, too. Their facebook shows some interesting stuff they've done so hopefully be alright.
