What would happen if Vlad decides to drop a nuke on Kyiv?

Would it/could it happen?

Would nato retaliate with force?

Would we just put more sanctions in place?

Or would it start WW3?

My thought are with anyone having to deal with that Russian nutcases actions.

I don't think that is even in his mind, if anything it would be aimed at Nuclear powers in the West. I think he'd get a bullet in the back of his head before he was allowed to hit the big red button.

I don't believe the nuclear nations would respond in kind.

If it happened, I'd expect that the west would properly seek to shut out Russia properly, as far as it can - essentially a return to the Cold War. That level of action does have some tough bounce back.

This, although early signs are that the Ruskies could rise up against him. Let’s hope they do, and soon. That is far more effective than sanctions.

Especially if they manage to hang him from a lamppost, Mussolini-style

Nothing a bit of Mescaline treatment can't sort

What size nuclear device?

It would be a bizarre thing to do in such close proximity to Russia. I don't see any strategic advantage on flattening Kyev.

the fear is that if he gets over run by a gurilla style battle, with lots of ukranians and they are slaughtering his forces... ammo and thousands of guns... he may be tempted to use small tactical nukes....

remember they always thought they could let a few off and not do a lot of damage in a limited battle field exchange. and that would have th shock and awe factor... oh look hes used them, thats a scary escalation and would appeal to his bully boy tendancies...

wonder whats made him like this, does he have gay frustrations or one ball like hitler...?

He has 6000 odd of them, dont try and second guess the mental case.

Mad Vlads Ker-azy closing down sale, everything must go !

What would old uncle Adolf do if he was losing and had nukes ? Like the petulant kid that takes his ball in.

Can only hope he has people who will disobey and/or kill him before allowing that to happen.

If Putin wants the Ukraine, why would he make it uninhabitable for a few millennia due to radiation?
Russia is rumoured to have a stockpile of about 40,000 tons of VX, sarin, soman, mustard, lewisite, mustard-lewisite mixtures, and phosgene.
Chemical weapons are far worse than nuclear.

I'd agree we're seeing a lot of wallop belonging to various PH cod of late, but you'll also note that back in the day both the USA and the USSR were quite happy to nuke their own territory (we were never that foolish, choosing to nuke Australia and then the arse-end of the Pacific instead).

Popping a few tactical warheads in of itself doesn't end the world - we've had over 500 atmospheric nuclear tests since 1945, plus whatever Israel and and South Africa managed to hide - so the global effect would be a drop in the bucket compared to what we've already done, but on a personal basis you don't want to be underneath or downwind of it. The huge risk is that once you cross the threshold, the pressure for escalation becomes irresistible .

Nukes are like Pringles really...expensive, moreish and bad for you. Once you pop, you just can't stop.

This is Hiroshima:

Tactical nukes don't render places uninhabitable for millennia. They don't even do it for a decade.

He'd be stupid to use nukes, going to be waste of time taking control of radiation covered waste land. He's definitely lost the plot and thinks he's invincible. Wouldn't be surprised if he's not over thrown in next month or so.

Nobody will get anywhere near him. Doesn’t matter how much force they use, or how big the crowd he will simply have them all massacred. The guy’s a total whackjob. Very unlikely any of the inner circle would even entertain crossing him.

Truman gave the order because he believed nukes would actually save lives, with the US facing an invasion of Japan, and a protracted ground war.

As difficult as it is to stomach, we should probably hope for a swift Russian victory, Ukraine to surrender and for the war to end with as little bloodshed as possible. Because I don’t see Putin walking away from this with his tail between his legs.
