Looking at buying one of these but there's very little info out there, does anyone know what they are like?
The one i'm looking at in 2002 Jap Import with 50k miles, 3.0 V6 turbo engine.

- are they timing chains?
- how easy/difficult are parts to get?
- what are the cars like?

Thanks smile

The 3.0 V6 turbo is the newer VQ series engines, same basic type as the 350Z and 370Z although obviously smaller capacity and turbocharged. Pretty sure the VQ are all cam chains, and never heard of any issues on the 350s with them.

The Cima was sold as the Infiniti Q45 in the US, although only with the V8 engine, so non-drivetrain parts may be available from across the pond.

No idea what they're like; they're among the last new Nissans launched prior to the arrival of Ghosn and Renault platform-sharing. (So not on the FM platform of the later Skyline, 350Z, GTR etc). I assume as a 90s luxury-oriented JDM Nissan they're probably fairly soft, but who knows - I think the Q45 was sold as a bit of a sports saloon in the states.

Interesting Sam, I assume you are talking about the 300g model with the NEO VQ30DET engine.

On Friday this week I am taking delivery of a 97 Nissan Leopard JHY33, which is the same as the Pervious generation Cima to yours, with the earlier VQ30DET which has similar power. Mine will have a 4 speed auto, I think yours have a 5 speed. However the benefit of the pre March 2001 is the 280 quid annual road tax, not sure what the emissions are on your vehicle, but it could mean a considerably higher car tax.

I will share some photos and give a quick review on how it drives at the weekend, might be interesting for you.

Shipping delays are long now, many vehicles held for months until they can get a space, so you might not see it for quite a while if you do go for it.

It's a 2001 model which is the start of th le 4th gen I believe, 3.0 v6 turbo engine. The car is already in the UK, the current owner said the tax is 280 per year but I'd need to check that.
I'm very tempted, but lack of spare parts availibility in the UK is the main worry.

Isn't it a quirk of running an import that because of no available emissions data you fall into the older system - certainly has been my experience in the Crown groups.

Great, will parts be readily available in the UK for the Cima?

If they are shared the it shouldn’t be a problem. I managed to get parts for the Skyline GTS-t as it shared bits with the 200SX sold here.

You’ll find body parts and trim hard, amayama is a good place to check for part numbers to cross check with UK Nissan’s.

Only part I’ve found hard was rear break pads - had to get them from Toyota!

Well, you learn something everyday, that’s great news! Expands my choice of the next import considerably!

Apparently Toyota have had some luck getting Crown glass over from Japan - not sure how that squares as all the ones local to me "can see part but not open to us ordering". frown
