We forget how rubbish Skodas were! I believe the above car is the only car Autocar declared to be dangerous on a test drive.

Back in the 80’s, a friend of ours used to race one on the grass.
It’s got the makings for an EV conversion... it’s got the looks & the position for the charge point already.

Yes I remember that at the time but subsequently told it was because they were the only thing in that class!

Common practice for the Imps too... so I have been told.
I did put a ‘few’ turfs in the back of my 205 diesel once... instant power steering.

Wrap around bumpers, aerodynamic shape.
Flush those headlights into the wings and it wouldnt look out of place in the 90s early 00s

Being East european there were pretty shonky at the time, hence all the Skoda jokes, which still put people off to this day.

re the Brabham 'fan car' mentioned earlier... its a popular recollection (repeated by motoring journalists that should know better) that the car was banned - it wasnt it was withdrawn. At the time Bernie E was was gathering the teams together under FOCA. The car was legal but other teams protested it. Bernie voluntarily withdrew the car after one event in order not to antagonise the other team principals and scupper his FOCA plans.
Gordon Murray is also adamant that the stories that the car spat debris out of the back of the car at competitors are nonsense because this would be physically impossible - im not sure of the physics of it but he ought to know.
I wish modern Formula one rules allowed such innovative thinking.

Brabham Fan Car (BT46) reaches 44 years old this year. That's very sobering for all old farts. I was a young man back then

Apart from being an old Skoda, it suffers as many did from attempts to make an original design look newer that it is. Generally, adding bits and pieces means that they ended up with cars that were neither one thing or another.

I think I read in Performance Car back in’t 1990’s that they viewed the Skoda as a poor mans’ 911, a tail heavy wee beastie that’ll catch you out if you overdo it.

Or I was suffering from benzene fumes in the Mini. Again.
