No grocer's apostrophes, I'm impressed.https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-60429584
Nearly 4000 vehicles in the drink sounds like a massive insurance payout.
Edit: I didn't read the article properly.

Why would you put so many cars - especially luxury cars - on one vessel?!
It doesn’t make sense.
It’s not a container ship it’s basically a huge car ferry specifically designed for transporting vehicles. It doesn’t make sense.

I wonder if all those people waiting for delivery now go to the back of the build slot line or get bumped up?
Matt Farrah of The Smoking Tyre has been Tweeting about this as he has a new, personally spec'd Boxster on there. Indication's a new build replacement; but he hasn't mentioned timeframe (although assume that nothing will be clear until the ship's problem's resolved one way or another).

Seems a strange route going past Portugal between Germany and RI
It wasn't off the coast of mainland Portugal - it was the the Azores islands which are portuguese. They're kind of in the middle of the Atlantic so maybe their coastguard were nearest when the ship caught fire. Nickbrapp said:

Not everyone is up on ship types but it’s a dedicated vehicle carrier.https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-60429584
Usually referred to as a Car Carrier.
Not a ferry, no containers.
