Difinitive 996 Engine upgrade thread IPD&all that
Discussion
Hi Folks
Forums forums everywhere and not a clear answer in sight.
Only interested in measured engine power increases experienced by other owners of the 996.1 3.4 after tweaking, tuning (chipping or ECU program) or adding performance parts like - IPD Plenum, 82mm TB, Exhaust manifolds, cat delete.
OK - I’ll start
2001 996 3.4 e-GAS - bog standard in every way. Tested power and torque via multiple runs on a Dyno - Tried changing my standard Porsche paper Airfilter element for K&N version - Measurable reduction in HP and Torque - Yes I have the charts to prove. Went back to the standard Porsche Paper Filter elements - Power and Torque restored. All tests on same rolling road at roughly the same outdoor temperature- so like for like,.
Who wants to go next - Real life experienced and honesty here please not interested in anything without measured results. (The K&N filter above sounded faster but wasn’t!).

That video does some good comparisons of different intake options. The 3.6 M96 in the 997 is largely the same as the 996 3.4 and 3.6 so is relevant. They did a similar video on exhausts too.
