What do you guys do to bridge the gap between old car and delayed new vehicle delivery?

I have a company car lease which expires in August.
Mid Nov last year I ordered a Defender to replace it.
My specified model is still quoted as a '6 month' wait time but I am hearing some horror stories of delays..

I don't really have a plan in case I have to hand back my old car and the Defender is delayed for multiple months..

Anyone in a similar position; old lease expired, new car delayed? How did you cope? (I assume many will own their old car and can just wait it out until jumping into a new one - that's not so helpful for my situation).

Buy, short term lease, subscription?

You can usually extend the lease on a company car. Most leasing companies seem happy to extend the lease for a couple of months on an ad-hoc basis.

Extend current lease if that's an option.

I'm looking at buying something relatively cheap and fun like an old Mini Cooper S for 4-5 months between Q5 going back and Tucson arriving. Around £5k and hopefully get most of it back when selling on.
