About 3 weeks ago I sold my 64 plate 335d estate stage 1 mapped, loved it, one of the best cars I’ve had, I’ve had 18 cars in just over 6 years…. I’ve seen this car as I’m after something abit newer ect and just want to know if it’s a good deal given the current market!!!

2019 seat Leon estate 2.0tsi DSG 190bhp
30k miles
Will come with its first MOT so 12 months and a service
2 years SEAT warranty
2 Years roadside assistance
2 services
4 years gap insurance
It’s got heated leather seats and digital cockpit
It will cost 315 a month over a 4 year plan with 12k miles a year limit?

If you have had 18 cars in 6 years then are you sure you are going to want to keep this for 4 years? What is the ‘get out’ option if you want to end the deal early?

I’m not a leaser / pcp-er but isn’t that expensive?

15k over 4 years for a boggo estate car seems like a terrible plan to me….

Well I think that’s the plan, I paid 17,700 for the BMW 6 months ago and put 7k miles on it and sold it 19k that was the only reason I sold it really, I’ve had some bangers and newer nicer cars but I need to stick with a car now minuim 3 years, the get out of option is hand the car back and pay the negative equity, I’ve had a seat Leon estate before but the 150bhp 2.0 diesel model 2016 which I had for a year

This is car below, I just don’t want to be paying 15-19k for a older high mileage Audi, bmw, merc to look good, used car market is crap at the moment, my 335d estate was 7 years old on 63k and I sold that for 19k which is think is overpriced but it was more money in my pocket

Is a personal loan an option?

£18k over 5 years at 2.9% APR is £322 a month. You can then sell whenever you like and no balloon at the end.

We had a personal loan on the BMW paying 308 a month for 5 years which was like 2.9% APR for 17k

We have just checked and 17,300 over 5 years which is 314 a month but this doesn’t include all the extras I get with it as these are only available on the pcp apparently and there’s no way I’ll keep it for 5 years haha

There are plenty of 290ps Cupar DSG estates for that money.

It will be cheaper and more flexible with a personal loan anything the salesman is claiming otherwise will be rubbish.

A friend bought a 2 year old Kia on PCP (no intention to keep after the 3 years) for more than a lease deal I found for him on the same car brand new. This was after the salesman kindly explained all the disadvantages of leasing such as ‘having to ask permission to go abroad’ . Salesman is going to drive you towards whatever is best for them not best for you.

I like the cupras but I ain’t wanting a 15-16 plate with more miles for the same money as I can get a 19 plate just not a Cupra, my bmw was faster than a cupra im not really after mega performance as I was putting atleast £250 minuim in fuel a month, I’ll ask them again about me paying with cash and still getting the extras tomorrow

I would have kept the 335d!

190bhp Leon seems pretty gutless by comparison.

I loved the 335d but I work 6 miles away from home Monday to Friday, I felt like I was being forced to take it on a long drive ect

The bmw was 7 years old on 63k or so and costing 420 a month for loan, insurance, and tax

The Leon is nearly 5 years newer 30k miles less which is costing me 380 a month for loan, insurance and tax and hopefully fuel too, I just want worry free motoring really for minimum 2 years,

Granted the bmw was more luxury and faster ect but I just didn’t really need it! I want to put money into my house and holidays ect

If you want to put money into house and holidays why keep renting cars?

I paid less than £3.5K for my BMW 330i with 258bhp in 2019. If I binned it next month with no scrap value that would be £100 a month!

OP, just my thoughts from reading this post....

You've had 18 cars in 6yrs. That's an average ownership of each vehicle of 4 months. You are looking to go from a 335d, to a much slower car (albeit fairly nice) and all of a sudden increase your length of ownership from 4months, to 4yrs.

I've been there loads of times, and always ended up paying to get out the finance deal because I got cold feet and missed the performance. I would be tempted to buy something cheaper, or at least use a personal loan so you are more flexible for getting rid.

Re the deal. Not a direct comparison, but my wife has a 2021 Cupra Leon 1.4 ETSI 245bhp on lease for 1 + 36 @ 325pm. So the deal isn't amazing IMO.

As I said, just my 2p.

I work hard and don’t want no bangers, I’ve had them before and I currently have one now which I hate! I can afford a newer/nicer car while going on holidays and doing my home up ect I was just asking if it’s a good deal or not considering the current market?

I’ve looked at older cars like 5-8k hot hatch/ fast estate and they just look/feel dated and again they can break at any moment and I’ll be out of pocket massively

Fully understand that my track records not the greatest haha, but I’ve come to realise I can’t keep changing, granted atleast 10 of them cars was bangers and I used to do a hell of a lot driving where they all got hammered! The new car wait is too long seat said the wait for a new model is September- December, the 335d is already sold it went 3 weeks ago and now Im driving a 05 plate mk5 golf and it sucks haha I just don’t want to pay 300 a month for older cars like Audis and bmw just for a badge, if you have other suggestions it would help

If it was me, I would get a personal loan.

For around 200pm over 5yrs, I would be looking at things such as...

Boxster
GT86
Megane RS250 Cup

If you need an estate...

Passat R36 estate
S4 Avant (B6/7)
335i Touring
Spec B Legacy
V70 T5

All this, get rid when you want, and it's yours at the end of the loan if you keep that long. Saving of £200+ over your last loan.

Alternatively, spend the £300pm that you had planned on this new Leon FR, again over 5yrs....

Cayman 987 3.4
Megane RS275 Cup
Cupra 300
M135i

Again, estate options,

Cupra 300 Estate
Octavia VRS Estate
S4 Avant (B8)

Not a definitive list obviously, but you get the idea...

EDIT - I have based this on circa 5% for your interest rate, so you might do even better if you manage a better rate.

What extras are they talking about ? They aren’t free if you’re paying loads on interest to get them
