i've just bought a second hand S2. it's a 2001 sportstourer and it's got a few rattles.

now i've noticed that the striker pins on the doors have not been replaced and the previous owner had put some tape on them to tighten up the door. i've replaced the tape as it's worn thru but given that this should have been fixed for free i don't understand why it's not been?!

also there's a rattle from either below the drivers seat or within the drivers side sill - not sure which tbh. now i understand that there was also a recall for the clutch cable which kept rattling agains the bodywork - again i don't understand why the car wasn't ever fixed for free but given that both this and the stricker pins should have been replaced years ago is it possible lotus will still carry out the work free of charge?

another one. i've heard a lot of talk about the indicators coming lose and smacking against the body work. my passengers side indicator has a little give in it - i can push it into the body work by about 2mm! is this normal? the other side doesn't budge and now i'm worried that it's going to pop out and cost me a fortune in damage - how do i tighten this?

thanks as always guys

rattle under your seat could be as simple as lose bolt on the engine cover. About 13 8mm bolts and two allen head bolts.

ok i'll go around it with a spanner tomorrow and see if it's that simple! have to admit that a lot of rattling has stopped since i tighteded all the bolts in the door and window assembly.

Was your car serviced at an official Lotus dealer? Mine was, and they have some kind of database that flags up service issues like this. Last time mine was in for a service they did the clutch pipe and replace the indicator housings for free. I'm not sure that a non-lotus garage would know about these things or have access to the relevant information regarding your particular car?

About 6 months after I got mine the indicator flew out and scratched the front clam like mad. Fortunately for me they resprayed it under warranty...

Stoker.

You can check recall info from the Lotus Cars web site, by entering your VIN number

According to my friendly Lotus dealer, there was no recall for the sidelughts, they were simply replaced free when cars came in for service. Sadly mine had already been fixed, so 65 quid thankyou sir for a replacement. (I managed to break the clip when replacing the bulb).

Cheers

That'll probably be a coin or piece of gravel under the seat then.

To be pedantic the Elise doesn't have a clutch cable it's a hose as the clutch is hydraulic

Clatters and rattles are things you are going to have to learn to live with I'm afraid.
