Hello All

Seriously looking at these as my next car. From initial research you seem to be able to get a 2019 car with about 12k - 20k on it for around £60K from BMW approved used.

A lot of my driving is on motorway so I'm not hung up on Comp pack vs. the 'base' car.

RS6, RS7, E63s all seem to be a good bit more expensive - for example £60K gets you into a 2016/17 vehicle if buying from a main dealer (which is my preference, for warranty purposes). I've also had a few BMWs before including the E92 M3, and I like the brand.

I'd appreciate any owner views, for example is there any particular spec I should look out for.

Also, do M5s have a reputation for being theft targets in the same way that Audi RS products seems to be?

Appreciate any feedback.
Thanks
John

Fabulous car, the best M5 I have owned (E39, E60 and F10 previously).

Seems very reliable, surprisingly economical (longer range with a 68 litre tank than the 80 litre tank in the F10), and the 4WD is a total gamechanger.

Options that I have and would recommend: M Sport exhaust and pre-OPF (think until June 2018), Bowers & Wilkins hifi, full leather and alcantara headliner. I like the adaptive cruise and the 360 degrees camera, but depends on your usage.

Thanks Rassi

I plan to get into the newest car possible within budget, subject to sensible mileage, so looks like mid-2019, possibly later 2019. Car will be a daily, c. 12k - 14k p.a., plenty of time on motorways.

I agree 4WD is a huge bonus over earlier cars - I'm not a good enough driver to confidently boot 600bhp with RWD unless going dead straight or with lots of space around!

Browsing online it seems the exhaust is a common option, hi-fi seems to be mostly Harmon Kardonn.

Test drive booked for tomorrow. Incidentally my local dealer (nearest is Warrington) wouldn't allow me to book a test drive without essentially agreeing a deal to buy the car, assuming drive was OK. I couldn't be bothered to play along or discuss financials without having driven one, so I'm travelling a little further to get a test.

My 2019 M5C was an absolute monster! At £60k a total bargain. The only thing that I didn't like so much was the mass of it, very big on the road especially small ish roads where I live.

Thanks, good feedback! I'm in an E class estate at the moment (400d) so hopefully size will feel manageable. Will find out tomorrow!

I have had all 4 iterations of the F90 M5, my latest 2021/22 is the "Ultimate", I love them the size will be easy to get used too.
Parking can be tricky but pick your places carefully, Motorway driving will be great for the car it eats miles, good luck with it. The 2019 Comp is a good car all round.

Thanks - again great to receive such positive feedback. My impression is that those who have owned these cars really respect and have enjoyed them, good to know.

Subject to a test drive tomorrow - I'm sold!

Never had a dealer force a sale on me on the condition of a test drive. I know what most people would say to that.

I drove both the standard car and the Comp model back to back, when I was looking. Glad I did as I felt the Comp was too stiff for my preference. The standard car is still a little firm even in comfort, but still more compliant and composed than my previous C7 RS6 Performance with the chocolate 21” alloys.

Options-wise the F90 M5s are generally well specified as standard. The sports exhaust and 360 degree cameras are nice to have, but I wouldn’t be lost without them. The upgraded audio is a rare find, but the HK setup is perfectly fine.

I will say that I’m a total convert re the HUD. I don’t think I could go back to a car without it, well not one capable of accelerating this quickly anyway wink

I recently upgraded from an 435i Cabrio to a 2018 Special Launch Edition F90. 1 of 400 worldwide, ~32 allocated for Canada. These are all in Frozen Dark Red Metallic and it seems all of the options were ticked. Some of which I remember: Carbon Ceramic Brakes; B & W audio; Night Vision; Blind Spot monitoring; Parking Assist; Radar Cruise Control (which "shouldn't" be used in excess of 210 kph) and all of the cameras. I'm not sure if this model was offered in RHD but it is really special! I did negotiate a price of Cdn$ 91,000.00 (UK 53,100.00) plus tax for this example which has ~30,000 miles and is is wonderful condition. it was a lease return from someone with very deep pockets! There is currently a less miles example (<20,000 miles) for sale in Vancouver listed at Cdn$ 119,000.00 (UK 69,500.00)

The local dealership informed me that they did not allow unsupervised test drives on M cars so we had a sales associate in the back. He did suggest that I could try the amazing acceleration after a short drive.

I added a BMW 6 yr extended warranty just in case. And, the last maintenance in Sept included the spark plug service which happens at this mileage. I hope this info is helpful. Ian

Thanks both.

Deal done - Alpine white, non-comp. late 2019, 12k miles, 1 owner. Couldn't agree more re the HUD - the ability to keep an eye on speed without looking down is very valuable. Even with it this is a real licence loser - much control required!

I love mine...literally the best car I've owned.
Surprising the size and weight are soon forgotten.
The M xdrive system is impressive...only adding drive to the front wheels when slip at either end is detected.
If you are brave enough, the current slippy roads offer opportunities to slide the car around even with all the nannies on.
There isn't much on the road that is as quick.

I've had lots of nice cars in the past (e.g. '63' engined AMGs, F10 M5, etc.), but I honestly haven't owned anything like the F90. Mine is not the competition pack, I bought it approved used last year.

It is amazingly fast, yet amazingly comfortable. On the motorways it sort of reminds me of S-class AMGs in how its so luxurious yet picks up speed so effortlessly. However, when you take it to the country roads, it is just magical. The M-xDrive is a very welcome addition, compared to the previous F10 M5... it really removes that anxiety of 'what if the back end comes out' yet it still feels like a RWD car at all times. I suspect that the competition pack cars would be even better to drive.

I'm not entirely sure what is standard and what is optional, but I think we get a pretty good deal in the UK with terms of things that are standard.

Without question it's the best all-round car I've owned - I'm sure that there are many other cars which outperform the M5 Comp in different ways, but this car seems to manage everything whilst offering a luxurious feel at the same time. I've just recently driven down to Switzerland and then though the French alps on the way back, and on winter tyres, it was a complete breeze - 2500 miles in a week wasn't tiring at all.

I had a 2019 M5 Comp before this and the current car is a new LCI Comp "Ultimate" - the latter is a huge step up technologically, plus the ride and handling characteristics are markedly better too. I was initially somewhat worried about the firm ride which many have reported previously but took the plunge for the Comp instead of a standard car. I've run all my M5s on Cup 2s for the summer and the present car is on winter tyres; I have to say that the ride quality on both is much better than on the factory fitted PZEROs, so I personally can't relate to the car being overly firm for everyday driving.

I have the new "Ultimate" too and agree it's way better all round than my 2020 F90 Comp.

Absolutely stunning colour combination, and the wheel style shade finishes it off superbly, nearly pulled the trigger on an AMG GTS a while back with a similar colour combo……now if I could find an M5 Comp in the UK like yours I’d be sorely tempted……

Rhodonite silver was my second choice, but I can’t see past this blue for now. Reminds me of an ISF I used to have…

I’ll join in as like the op as in the same boat.

OP any pics of yours?

Currently in a Cayenne S and had an M4 before but need five seats now and am looking at a 60k car.

Fairly set on Donnington Grey but may buy Singapore grey or marina bay blue. I have had too many black cars.

Want an AUC likewise see some now at Indy’s with 12 months bmw warranty being offered. Spoke to one and they are just buying it when the car they have runs out next month. Pretty safe to buy from them in that case I think.

Away snowboarding next week but likely to have one on the drive when I come back.

Donnington Grey looks great albeit I am a touch biased.

It does look great. I missed by a rare M4 last year in Donnington and thought it looked amazing.
