Circa £5/6k Commuter and 2nd Car
Discussion
Evening All!
The time has come for our fun but not overly practical 3dr S3 to be replaced by a run around for commuting and a 'family' car. We have some time on the family car side so for the little run around i am drawn towards an Up! or something like that ?
Short commute each day, city driving with the possibility of being with us for the forseeable (or forever...) and never needing to worry about it being bashed in the work car park
So what would the shortlist be ?
Up!
Citygo ??
Mii?
Aygo ?
Ideally want something that shouldnt be a worry come MOT times and easy on the tax would be good too...!
Hit me with anything left field that i am missing....!

When it comes to an Up sized car I feel the Kia Picanto is the better overall package:

Vauxhall Adam a better car than it's given credit for:

Personally I'd go a size up.
Kia Rio3

VR7

208 Feline

This is PH so it would be rude not to suggest a 208 GTI, it'll do the commute with ease & not make you miss your S3 so much:

The S3 can perfectly well be run as a family car, depending on what your view on the matter of 3 or 5 doors is - and the number of kids you have.
I ran a succession of 2.0T A3 Quattro, S3, Golf R32 etc as our family wheels with a roof box for many years. Our two kids are now 9 & 12 and I still run an S3.
We also run a van and a Fabia, but with a drive to Switzerland in the spring it’s the S3 that’ll be taken. Luggage capacity is perfectly adequate.

I did start to consider the piccanto and i will admit that i never consider an Adam. Maybe some more research needs to continue.https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202111129...

Kia, will it just keep going and going (with proper servicing) ? Which is probably why i was leaning towards something in the VAG group....

To be honest running the S3 into the ground was the plan but the running costs just seem higher than they need to be for a car which is running to work and back...I ran a succession of 2.0T A3 Quattro, S3, Golf R32 etc as our family wheels with a roof box for many years. Maybe once the family car is around it is something that should be back in the (non existent) garage...
All these are £30 a year to tax

The Kia will be more reliable than the VAG option but to be honest most modern cars will be a reliable option.Kia, will it just keep going and going (with proper servicing) ? Which is probably why i was leaning towards something in the VAG group....
