Don't know what to buy next.....suggestions?
Discussion
I'm after a replacement for my L322.
I've only had it a year, but I've got no faith in it, so its time to change.
In the past I've had an X5 40d, a couple of 530ds, 335i, Disco, but at the moment I just can't find anything that jumps out.
The problem is I like the driving position, practicality and capabilities of the L322. It just does everything I need it to, apart from be reliable!
I like to have a bit of power, but I don't need to set the world alight.
I like a well specced car, the L322 is great for this.
I need a towbar. I do a lot of mountain biking, so the bike goes on a towbar rack, and I also have a TVR that sometimes needs to be trailered to the nice man who fixes it when I break it.
I also need a fair amount of legroom.
I appreciate this is a big and wide-ranging wish list!!
Budget up to £20k ideally, but can stretch further if need be, top would be about £30k.
Any suggestions, as I'm coming up with very very little?!

How about an SDV8 L405? They're comfortably below £30k now, people I know in the owners club say they're better in every way to drive and seemingly far more reliable too. Plenty of nicely specced ones on AT atm
I have looked at them, and they are very tempting, but, I'm a bit meh about them given how bad the L322 is.I've not ruled them out, but I'm not bowled over by them, if you know what I mean!
Normally i wouldn't recommend an SUV as i just don't think you need one, not for what you are after. It seems to me a well equipped estate/wagon would suit your needs just as well, if not more so given the bracket you are in -
Volvo - Very well designed, comfortable, well spec'd place to be. The quality of the interior and finish in my mind is superior to the likes of Audi and BMW. What they lack is probably the dynamic side, however, still swiftly paced. Spacious, comfortable and would fit well with your requirements of refined load lugging.

Perhaps a little more "mainstream" luxury i would always go for an E-Class. They are just superb in every way. Tow well. Look great. All the comfort and finish you'd want and some style and a great drive to go with it -

If you are certain you need an SUV type vehicle. Then iI'll throw the following into the mix as no one else has as yet -
Volvo xc90. I have not owned one myself. My work colleague had one and it was very refined. The spec level was high. It was a very nice place to be. Certainly warrant a look in your price bracket.

Personally i would go for this though, for the type of vehicle. It may not be that "luxury" branch but they look and feel great and really quite good at what they do. Not a RR by any means but certainly an outside bet for something that bit different.

Some interesting ideas, I had looked at the E class and having not had a merc I see the appeal.Volvo - Very well designed, comfortable, well spec'd place to be.
