Hi All

Anyone considered buying one of these? they are the 4 door version of the R33 GT-R. They are kind of awkward looking, but I think the more familiar I become with them, the better they look.

Because they are so rare, I wonder if there is some good future values to these whilst also making a great daily.

Interested to read what others think.

I’ve not considered buying one, but I always thought they were quite cool in a quirky way. They are pretty rare - the GT-R registry shows that only 416 were built, all at the tail end of the R33 lifecycle. Most cars are 1998 models, with a handful of late-1997 car produced.

I’m not sure what they used to go for, but with the R32 and series 1 & 2 R33 now eligible to the US, I would imagine the prices Autech GT-Rs are advertised for now mirror the increases seen for the R32 and R33 over the last 5 years…

Goo-net has 7 examples listed, and of the 4 cars that aren’t damaged or POA the cheapest is £58k (191,700kms) and the dearest at £94k (75,111 km). Cars at auction may change hands for less, but either way there will be shipping and duties to account for.

A quick search online shows that a grade 4B example went through USS Tokyo auction house in December 2021, but I don’t know what the selling price was.

Lots of desirable 90’s JDM stuff has been breaking records lately – I think an Impreza 22B and an Evo 6 TME both broke Japanese auction house records in the past fortnight?

Prices for an Autech GT-R might climb higher, especially as their build dates mean they aren’t eligible to the US yet. But, if you’re only considering one to ‘flip’ as (if) prices rise, I think you might have missed the boat…

I agree they're kinda cool, a classic JDM oddity.

I wouldn't expect them to become especially more valuable in the future than they are now; four-door variants aren't generally considered highly desirable, and I don't think the collector market prizes the ability to give Granny a lift that highly. The four-door Hakos etc are generally worth less than the two-doors, AFAIK. They're also rather obscure - hard for people to lust after something they've never heard of. Plus the R33 is, deservedly or not, probably the lowest-valued generation of GT-R.

As a daily there's a bit of a challenge in that it's a near-25-year-old turbo performance car, so stuff will wear out, and rust is a concern. But no worse than anything else of the period, and I'm sure they're perfectly useable. Having said that, I'm fairly sure a regular 2-door GTR has acceptable back seats too, at least for children.

If I were you I'd just look for the best condition, history, lowest mileage two-door GTR you can find within budget, both from a driving and an investment point of view. However if you personally think the idea of a four-door saloon with GTR mechanicals is super-cool, then by all means go ahead and seek one out - at the least it'll be a talking point at car shows!

Interesting, thanks guys I think we are on the same page. My mate has access to USS sold prices so will let you know how high it got, but if it’s more expensive dive than a 2 door, I don’t think I would bother.

Also noticing the Autech Stagea’s have gone ridiculous this last 12 months, always thought they were not very attractive.

I have another Nissan Turbo from the 90’s coming very soon, this 4 door is a bargain, stay tuned!

The Autech 40th Anniversary had 148,000 km on the clock, it sold for 42,000 GBP
