I know there is the M6 Gran Coupe thread on here and I don't want to hijack it, but there isn't much discussion about the F13 M6 coupe on PH.

When it first came out I didn't really like the look of the M6 coupe however the M6 Gran Coupe looked stunning (and still is) however the M6 coupes looks have really grown on me, so recently I decided to purchase a 67 plate M6 Coupe in Silverstone II from an approved BMW dealer. I think with even the current inflated values of the used car market, this car with just 24000 miles represents a lot of car for the money given what they cost new prior to massive depreciation.

For me the M6 is the perfect GT car for my daily commute (mainly motorways), I think it looks really nice in Silverstone II- shows it's lines off perfectly and given the interior and up to date tech of iDrive6 it's not too out of date. Also it does kind of fly under the radar and doesn't get too much attention compared to something like a McLaren.

I've been lucky enough to own several 911's, an Aston V12 Vantage, Audi RS4 and RS6, and many M3's. The M6 really doesn't feel like the "traditional" M car to me in that several iterations of M3's have.

I find it odd that when it was launched it was compared to the Porsche 911 and Audi R8- I think it's best compared to a Bentley Conti GT of the time or an Aston DB9. In fact the way it drives when just cruising reminds me of my Father's Bentley Conti GT V8S.

In fact most of the time I stay away from the various settings for drivetrain, chassis and steering as when the M buttons are engaged the car feels almost too fast for the UK roads- it's ballistic and I just know in the real world most exotica could be embarrassed by it.

The fact some people tune these up to an above 800bhp is beyond me- why would you want any more power?!

Interested to see what others think of this seldom discussed car which in my eyes is a total gem of a machine....

I'm with you. I have a convertible M6 mainly because I'd gotten sick of driving hard, uncomfortable sports cars like Nobles, TVRs, Lotus but I wanted something with less old man image that comes with Bentley, Aston, Jag xkr, etc. I agree it isn't a 911 nor an R8, nor is it really an SL63 rival either.

For me, it's plenty fast enough, it is fun in mdm mode as you can easily provoke the back. It is fairly numb to drive hard as it is too heavy and too big for UK roads but as a cruiser and occasional B road blaster, it is fun.

Depreciation on these is also savage and hence, a lot of car for the money.

Can't disagree with anything you've written and I think your car looks absolutely lovely, Silverstone II is such a good colour I really wanted a GC in that but all said and done I'm very happy with the colour combo of mine (when it's clean) They are too powerful really but I like the reserves being there even though the chances to use them are extremely limited.

Hope you continue to enjoy by why wouldn't you?

I’m pretty sure that ls my old M6! I hope it is, I’ve been very curious as to where it ended up. Bought it 1 year old with 11k on the clock. Does the original reg start with CK67?

Hi Matt Yes this is your previous car. Apparently someone owned it just after you for 3 months having bought it from the BMW dealer I purchased it from- then decided they needed a 3 series estate. So I then purchased it in December from BMW so it has warranty.

So it's a bit top heavy on previous owners but I buy on condition and history and it's been well looked after too. Clearly a pampered car. Plus I googled the number plate prior to purchase from BMW and your PH posts came up so it confirmed to me it had no issues. I think the lane departure warning was coded out on it but I don't care about that- annoying to have on other cars....

Oh BMW put new front discs and pads on it for free when I picked it up- a lot of brake judder at 70mph so happy days as nice new brakes!

I'm using it for the occasional commute alongside my 3 other cars so it won't gain much mileage. I love it!

I think we lead mirror lives- I own 997 Turbo etc...

Hope you are well?

That looks lovely. I’m a big fan of the F12/13 cats; they’re much better looking than the replacement 8 series.

There’s a San Marino blue M6 that I see near the office which I really like.

The M6 really is the laid back cruiser- probably similar to your 650i due to masses of torque quite low down. I really don't find myself wanting to go into the M modes- the performance is ballistic and in this weather a bit scary! So it's easy to mooch about in. But I plan to use it more in the summer months.

It totally fulfils my needs for the motorway mile munching! It also has wireless Apple CarPlay as part of a connected package so the infotainment is also spot on. Apparently it even has a WiFi hotspot.

Nice to hear from another Surgeon and enjoy your 650i in good health- that's a hell of a car.

Great car thumbup

I have the M6GC and can relate to most of what you like about the car. I think they hit a sweet spot between being fast/sporty and luxurious/comfortable.

You are so right, and though it's all just personal taste, those cars look superb in Silverstone II. It's way better looking than the 8 series, and IMHO the big BMW GT to have. I always thought that, why buy an 8 when you could buy a 6 series, expecially an M6.

Congratulations.

Hit it with a good dose of Dinitrol to keep it in A1 condition.

Thanks guys, such positive comments about a car that is often overlooked in my opinion and is in the "shadows" of the M2 M3 and M4. I totally agree with the comments about the 8 series too! The M6 looks way better.

When I first saw a M6 in San Marino Blue a few years ago...that made me fall in love with the colour big time. So I just had to get a F82 M4 in the same colour for sure. I remember when the salesman asked me what I liked most about the M4...and I said the colour!

Agree, and this was my favourite view of the F13 640d that I had too. They are such great looking cars I reckon, and you can't always say that about some of the more modern BMWs to be fair!

One thing I used to laugh at with mine, was how massive it was on the outside...yet it was tiny on the inside though! They are best to be judged as a 2 seater I think.

I'd say it's the best shade of Blue ever put on a car.
