Does anyone run an N57 diesel and use Liqui Moly oils and have you used Ceratec as well?

Just looking for user feedback before I shell out etc...

Decided to try a more premium oil for a change; something I want to do so no need to tell me if it's worth it or not wink

Just want to see how I get on now I've run cheaper TripleQX oil for a few months and covered around 1000 miles as a 'flush' etc

Cheers thumbup

Personally no, I just drop the oil out in any of my cars at 8-10k or 12 months. I've done this since running Cosworths in the 80's. Shell Helix used to be the default in most of my cars as that's what my mates garage had in barrels.

So long as it's the correct specification for the car in question, it will be fine. Dirty or old oil is the killer of engines.

I’ve never had an engine die by sticking to the manufacturers schedule.

Alas; I know quite a few BMWs that have had serious engine issues sticking to the 'schedule'...

But this isn't the point of my post and of no concerns to me as I'll be changing oil twice a year, as I've always done, seeing as oil & filters are cheap and engines are expensive to fix, plus I only do low miles etc

I'd rather have the oil nice and fresh and in tip-top health rather than waiting 12 months or so many miles between changes, a personal option

Back to the question; looking for views on those that HAVE use Liqui Moly oil and/or Ceratec

Cheers

I've had a couple of BMW diesels in the past and just serviced them every 10k
I never used any additives as my logic was

If there was such a genuinely magic product that didn't have any downsides, that significantly made oil better then why;

a) Major oil manufactures don't sell it directly (only seems Liquid Moly sells this type of products)
b) Oil manufacturers would dilute it into their oil and charge a small mark up
c) OEM manufacturers would have their own versions of such products or publically endorse and recommend them - none do

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5H_mZTh5bHY

Seems to be the only independent test of the product, shows some potential benefits but also more build up around the piston

For me, I'd rather buy better base oil, or change more regularly, than put some unknown product into my engine, most of these types of products are snake oil and none will magically stop an engine failing, and have some potential downsides , so I'd just stick with a good high quality base stock synthetic oil to manufacturer specs and be done with it, and spend the £20 on a take out to make the wife happy smile

I read into oil, oil samples and various oils have various chemical make up so some may have high Molybdenum, some may have higher Al or other variety of components - so adding a whole bunch of Moly to an oil that has been formulated to work without high Moly content could impact it

Where as I know quite a few who have dropped turbos on extended oil schedules.

I have been using Ceratec for many years now and am extremely happy with it, to the point of not missing it with any oil change. Also using it the manual gearbox and rear diffs. But I am not a diesel person.

Neither am I laughbiggrin

But I've done quite a lot of reading and it's well thought of with those running the N57 in 330Ds etc

I've emailed Liqui Moly and they've suggested 2 bottles for the N57 due to the amount of oil it uses.

So going to order x2 Ceratec and 10l of their Top Tec 4200 5W30 oil and a Mann filter and do a full change with that next, in time for our run up to the Highlands in early Feb thumbup

Same principles really...

Overall protection for moving parts etc...

Sreten of M539 Restorations is a fan and there's lots of decent reviews of BMW owners if you Google it etc

No need to use more than 6% of the filling capacity.

I'm going off what Liqui Moly have advised; that's good enough for me smile That was 1.5 bottles, not 2 full ones (forgot to mention that)

Fine and yes; run it in our F31 325D and my E81 130i - zero issues; quietens down the engine a touch and they run smoother and no tapping from the N52 in my 130i

I hope that continues, however I refer my good friend to the Ford Fiesta Ecoboost engine and its wet belt fiasco, which Ford used to refuse to acknowledge issues of, and might still do.
