Currently looking at replacing an axle set of Conti's but im finding the pricing of the 215/50 R17 a little difficult to fathom. Is it a case of rubber pricing going up recently, postcode lottery or is it due to just an odd sizing by Ford. 2015 Ford Focus Titanium for reference. Any tyre premium-ish is over £100 with replacement Conti's coming in at £130

205/55/16, 215/50/17 and 235/40/18 for reference is on the label inside the door

Unless you change your wheels to a larger diameter it appears you have no choice for tyre size except as currently fitted.

All these are from Camskill (per tyre)...
  • Kumho PS71 Ecsta - £75
  • Hankook V12 Evo 2 - £77
  • Yoko BlueEarth GT AE51 - £79
  • Vredestein Ultrac - £81
  • Uniroyal RainSport 5 - £82
  • Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 2 - £88
  • Pirelli P7 Cinturato - £92
  • Bridgestone Turanza T005 - £99
  • Bridgestone Turanza T001 - £101
  • Continental SportContact 5 - £103
  • Continental PremiumContact 6 - £104
  • Continental EcoContact 6 - £110
  • Michelin Primacy 4 - £114
  • Michelin Primacy 3 - £119
  • Michelin Pilot Sport PS4 - £120
You could also consider going to 225/45r17 (tyre will be about 2% smaller) as there are a lot more/cheaper options - for example:
  • Vredestein Ultrac - £54 (vs £81 above)
  • Uniroyal RainSport 5 - £59 (vs £82 above)
  • Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 Connect - £136.

Less common size but pricing isn't too silly
